Does anyone have any tried and true methods to making a child's t-shirt or onsie that they have outgrown (or is too tight in the belly or chest) bigger? My dd has some really cute summer shirts that she never got to wear last summer and they fit ok except for being a bit tight in the tummy (they are onesies) that I was hoping to make bigger so she can wear them this summer?
I've asked at crafters.org too.

Thanks for any help.

I've been known to add a gusset or two in the side seam of onesies. DS was a bit of a chub around the middle . I used a matching t-shirt fabric and it was rarely noticed.

I agree with the pp - You could cut off the poppered bit (snaps to you I think!) and then add godets to your t-shirt or you could keep the poppered bit and just add a godet by cutting up into the side seam and adding there.

The link is in German but the pics are very clear and shopw how to sew the piece in. You could use a plain triangle instead of the swooshy shape shown there.

This one is for shirts that are too short, not too tight, but I thought you might be interested anyway:

Wow! Thanks for the great link! My son has a lot of shirts that fit fine but are too short in the torso. This would be a great and easy fix for that.
