It looks like the last thread was archived, so I'm bringing it back to life! I'm completely new, but I'm so excited! I've done birth photography for awhile, but I'm not amazing at it (yet! I've got a long way to go!) I just bought a Canon Rebel XT and I'm very excited. I'd love to hear everyone's tips and tricks.

hands down this is the best photography forum I've seen, and it's geared towards (although there are some other brands used by members) Canon users...http://photography-on-the.net/forum/
It's great, and it's free! and theres tons of info on there.
#1 tip. Shoot, shoot, shoot!
#2. Read, reread your manual, get a lantern guide or other guide that oes more in depth. Know your features.
#3. Practice in manual mode. Learn your camera!

Yes! This has been such a wonderful source of information. Just reading critiques of others photos has taught me so much. I got my first DSLR in July so I've been reading like crazy trying to climb the steep learning curve.

Here's my Flickr.

Hi! I just purchased a Nikon D40 and am SO EXCITED! I have about blinded my cat trying out different settings on him. So far, I LOVE IT!!! ::: I have been pouring over my manual and trying out different settings.

Up until now, I had been using a Canon Powershot S1 IS point and shoot. I have always been very pleased with my photos from it, but was definitely ready to move up to the DSLR.

I found a great deal this week at one of the big box stores and snapped it up (I'm not sure if I can post the details here, if you are interested, you can PM me).

I hope to be around this board more often and hope more join us as well.

Amanda

Hi! I've had a canon rebel xti for about 6 months. I've been working on my skills a lot recently and I hope to take a class soon. I've recently opened an etsy to try and sell some prints. I've tried out several print shops looking for the best quality/price. Who do you use?

Whitehouse Custom Color is what my friends use. http://www.whcc.com/
They may be higher on price but I doubt any of the cheap places can come close to their quality. So for really special shoots and for paid prints to sell, I'd go with them. You'll be building the price of the print into the sale so I wouldn't skimp on that one!
This is from their price guide. And they have LOTS of different sizes to choose from, and types of finish. But a 4x6 lustre/glossy is .70; a 5x7 is 1.10, an 8x10 is 2.10; an 8x12 is 3.60. So this is much more than the snapfish and the like, but the quality is far superior.

Hey mamas.. I have a question-

I am in my intro to photography class, and tonight it our first time in the lab. I just found out that I am PG last week... do any of you know if the developing chemicals are OK to use while PG?

I think I am going to have to talk to my teacher about it tonight, but do any of you have any info or experience with the darkroom & pregnancy?

I have and love that camera. You might like the book Understanding Exposure by Brian someone. I have it but haven't read it, haha, but it teaches you to use the manual mode, which I highly recommend.

I do! I was told not to take another class (was considering another one so I could have access to better goodies than what I had at home), and I called Kodak and they told me that darkroom chemicals are not appropriate to use while pregnant. I switched to digital and sold my darkroom gear soon after...I had already been planning the switch for health and environmental reasons (and because film isn't vegan and won't be for a long time, again according to Kodak), but that made me move along to digital a bit faster.

I don't have a DSLR but I would love to sell some of my work so that I can save up to buy one. Right now I have a Canon Powershot G9 and I love it. Here are a few of my favorites

I just have to figure out how to get my name out there and get people interested in my work.

Thanks. I haven't sold any prints yet, just vintage stuff. That price for 8x10 is cheaper than the other sites I've tried so far most are 2.99 plus shipping. Snapfish rated highest in a couple different reviews so I'm trying it out now. I wish the WCC website was easier to use.

Well I got some prints back from snapfish and I am extremely happy with them. The color and quality is so much better than the local professional place I had tried first. They were here in less than 5 days too. If I could figure out the whcc I would try them lol.

I've been doing some black and white that is really making me happy.
