Mmmmmmmmm...from what? From scratch? From an existing article? From a book (there are several how to books out there that give pretty darned good instructions)?
Or, are you talking with what do you do it? You can use pattern "fabric" which is basically like sew in interfacing that has one inch squares over it in a grid. Or you can use plain old tissue paper. Or you can use butcher paper or newsprint.
You would take the standard body measurements and add a little for ease, then add a seam allowance...
Um, this is from somebody who COOKS by feel, too, so I guess I know how TO do it better than I know how to explain how to do it...which is why there are really good tutes and books out there!

I want to make a hanna style dress for dd. I am calling it a hanna style because I have no idea what type of dress it is (day/play) I can't find one on line.
Can I trace a dress and make a "sewing pattern" from that? I want to do solids and only fond wild prints when shopping.
