My cycles just returned this June. My son is 16 months so I was about 14 months pp when they arrived. I can thank nursing for that. I have had 2 periods since and they have both been very heavy and crampy/achy. Before my son I had very light, easy periods. I am charting and my cycles are not the same lenght and I can tell that they are stiil a bit out of whack. I am still nursing as well. I know that my cycle will eventually fall into a regular pattern. Will AF also return to they way it was pre-baby? If I have to have these periods until I'm menopausal I think I'll just stay pregnant/nursing until I'm 50. Dh had better get a night job cause that's gonna result in ALOT of kids!!

Amy

Mama to DS1 (4/04) DS2 (HBAC 11/06) DS3 (HBAC 12/08) DS4 (HBAC 1/11). Wife to one handsome hard working DH.

It may or it may not. Pregnancy changes your hormonal balance which effects your period. Some women find the reverse of your situation, crampy, heavy periods before pregnancy and then nice and easy afterwards and are fortunate enough to never have the crampy periods back again. It's also possible that if you get pregnant again your period will change again.

I'm in the same boat as you: DD is 18 mo old, we are still nursing, didn't get my period till a few months ago. They are so wacky and unpredictable. One month, heavier than I can believe any woman can survive, one month light, one month 30 day cycle, next 21 day cycle.....sheesh.....and we are trying to practice NFP!!!! Ugh!

I'm just hoping with time it will level out.

Do you know if you're ovulating? When I don't O my periods are so heavy that I'm sure I'm going to shrivel up and die.

That is an excellent question! I don't know for sure. My CM doesn't seem to be what I would consider normal for ovulation. I'm not doing any temp reading so other than counting days and watching for changes in CM, I'm not sure.

That might explain it.

TMI alert: This months was so unusual: started at day 21, super light for 5 days and on day 6 it was as if the flood gates were opened (changing super tampons every couple hours). This lasted about 24 hours, then slowed down again.

Definately sounds like an anov. cycle - or at least some of the ones I've had.
