We have recently moved to Orlando, and I find myself in need of a midwife.  I am looking for someone who will do a homebirth (not birth center) and am hoping to 'narrow the field' a bit if possible.  I would love if you would share who you used, how hands on/hands off she was, and any other information you feel is pertinent with me!  I will of course do interviews before deciding, but there are some things I know I do and do not want from my previous homebirth experience.  Feel free to PM me your experience if you don't want to share here!

Katie - lovin' on DH, DD (2/10), DS (3/11), and just got one of these pos.gif  !!!

Hi! I've never given birth, but I've heard really great things about Kelli Johnson.

Also, I took doula training through Commonsense Childbirth in Winter Garden, and I had the chance to meet with and hear Jennie Joseph speak a few times. She showed us some birthing pictures as part of her presentation and the way she spoke about them made it sound like she was all about stepping back and letting the mom birth on her own.

ETA: Oops, I just noticed you meant homebirth midwives only. :)

We used Kelli Johnson, who has caught babies for a huge number of my friends and acquaintances.  Her office (in her home) is up in Winter Springs, which meant driving 45 minutes or so to her for appointments, but it was well worth it.   We'll go with Kelli again if we're fortunate enough to get pregnant, or possibly with Maggie McCarthy (who has been a long time friend of ours and is finishing midwifery school and sitting for boards soon) if she's practicing...just crossing fingers for a pregnancy soon.

Diane Albright (in Altamonte Springs I think)  has caught babies for a few people I know as well.

Not sure if Kaleen Richards (Tree of Life Birthing and Gynecology in Sanford) is doing homebirths, but I know a few people who have had babies with her (she used to be a Heart2Heart, and I know one friend who recently birthed with her at the hospital.)
