We're probably moving to Rome soon, and I'm wondering how the hospitals and drs are there.  not pg yet, but prob will be in the next year or so, and want to find a hospital that is natural birth friendly, preferably with midwives and waterbirth, as well as a pedi or family practice dr who is very laid back, and good about delayed selective vaccination.  thanks!

In the Rome area people go to Floyd hospital or Cartersville hospital , Redmond doesn't deliver babies. I know a lady who just had her baby at Floyd and she was in a practice that had OB's and midwives but as far as I know, neither hospital does water labor or water birth. There is a good group of midwives who work with an awesome OB ( a lot of the time your midwives may be lovely but if they are supervised by a non natural birth friendly OB you are not safe unless your pregnancy goes by the book, no complications) they work out of a hospital with waterbirth their practice is Intown Midwifery. Edited to add: Intown MW work out of Atlanta! Left out due to posting while half asleep. I delivered my last two babies in Atlanta but I know many people aren't able to make a long drive like that.

I am a delayed/selective vaccination mother too and I use All God's Children Pediatrics in Cartersville. They are a group practice but all of the doctors/ NP I have seen so far have not given me any grief over my vaccine choices. One of the PA's didn't strike me as being intact boy knowledgeable though. My son is 9. She went to do an examination on him and I mentioned not to retract his foreskin, she said that the AAP says it ought to be retractable by age 5 - she made it sound like an issue that it wasn't. I said well, it's my understanding that it may not be retractable until after puberty and that the boy is supposed to be the one who retracts it. She repeated that the AAP says if it is not retractable by age 5 then it is some condition that I don't remember the medical term for.

The ICAN of Atlanta message board has provider reviews for Atlanta and the surrounding areas.

I am from Rome, but I currently live in the Atlanta area.  There are a few OB practices with nurse midwives in Rome, but none of them or the hospitals really "specialize" in low-intervention birth.  It's possible, but you'll need to be an advocate for yourself.  I did not birth in Rome, but I know many people who have.

Let me know if you need any other info about the area.  It's a sweet little town.
