My husband, 3.5 yo daughter and I will be moving from New York to Miami in August.   I'm having difficulty finding an attachment parenting community in that location.  I also am looking for info on AP-friendly pediatricians, Montessori or Waldorf-inspired preschools and family-friendly neighborhoods.  Any leads at all would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

You could try pediatric associates to find a ped that fits what you're looking for? They have something like 20 offices all over south Florida with little bios on each doctor online. Maybe even call the offices closest to you and ask the nurses if they would recommend a doctor? The doctors may be able to recommend groups for you as well. I wanted a doctor that was supportive of a vegan lifestyle and found one easily through them. Are you only looking in Miami dade or is broward an option for you as well?

Hi, did you move here? Did you ever connect with anyone? There are a lot of AP-minded folks around, I think. On Meetup.com there's a group called something like Pregnant to Preschool Parents of Miami (for all kinds of parents) with lots of get-togethers and meetups for playdates, workouts in the park, crafts, etc. If you're on Facebook you can connect there with the South Florida Babywearing Group. And there is a great place called The Gathering Place just north of downtown Miami that you should check out. Hope this helps.

The Gathering Place in Miami is a fantastic resource in Miami! They host a biannual Green Baby Fair where you can probably meet a lot of people.  They also have playgroup, breastfeeding support group, and more.  If you are in South Miami/Coral Gables area, there is Gables Montessori, International Bilingual Montessori, and Alexander Montessori.

Esinedeggplant - can you tell me more about the South Florida Babywearing Group?  I've been trying to find a group like that in Miami, but I think the one that used to meet at Whole Foods stopped meeting or something.  Thanks!

@annejhanderson, if you are on Facebook, you can find the South Florida Babywearing Group  there as a group. It's pretty active with members in Miami-Dade and Broward. One of the main organizers/founders is Yuhfen Lin. They have periodic meetups, nature walks, etc. and Yuhfen teaches classes.

Hi! I am also living in NYC and moving to Miami next year. In New York, I am a member of a Facebook group as well as the API NYC yahoo group, but I haven't found anything simliar in Miami and I want to connect with a network of AP-friendly moms.

Please let me know if you found a group/meetup, etc

thanks!

Definitely check out the Gathering Place. They have a very active Facebook page that will give you an idea of what they do. It's a maternity center with lots of services for moms and families with babies and very young children, but they are also sort of a community center for families/moms who are AP-minded and interested in natural living, etc, with support groups, meetups, yoga classes, etc.
