Hello everyone.

I'm new to this forum. From what I've read it seems like a very supportive and open-minded community, so I'm happy to have found you all : >

I'm looking for a preschool for my four year old daughter that is nature-inspired, gentle, child-driven, respectful of each child's uniqueness and that supports children in trusting themselves.

Reggio Emilia inspired schools seem to offer most or all of these aspects. Or a school that combines different approaches, like Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and Montessori. I've searched online extensively and there seem to be quite a few options in Atlanta and Decatur, but I can't find anything in our area. We live in Marietta, quite far north, so a school in Woodstock or Kennesaw might work for us as well.

My daughter has been in Montessori schools since she was almost three and although the Montessori method has many merits, I feel that not enough time is spent exploring the physical world and nature, and that my daughter's individuality and needs are not honored as much as I would like. At least, I've felt that this has been the case with the two Montessori schools that my daughter has attended.

Thanks!

Sadly,I have been looking for similar school in Marietta but have come up empty. Most of the private schools are christian religion based. I know at one time a mom had posted here to start a play based preschool but I am not sure if it ever took off or not. The north suburbs of Atlanta are really lacking when it comes to schooling choices.

Thanks for letting me know.

I've been doing a google search and have come up with one school on East Piedmont Road:

I will let you know if I find anything else.

Hi.

I know it is a long shot that anyone would read this, but I thought I'd give it a try.

We just moved to Woodstock from Chicago and are looking for a child-centered, well-rounded preschool for my three year old daughter. NPvW--your post--it is exactly what I'm looking for. Did you have any luck? I'd love to hear. Thanks!

Hi there! Welcome to Georgia. I operate a group in Marietta called Natural Learning Alternative. This will be our fourth year in operation and we are growing! I offer a Toddler group, a mixed-age group (ages 2 1/2-5) and a Homeschool enrich program (ages 5-9). My program is child-centered, nature and play-based. We are a parent participant program which offers parents to meet like-minded parents for support and friendship. I offer many activities during our gatherings which include sensory, process based art, music, dramatic play, building, gardening to name a few. The children see the same children each week and are able to work on the emotional/social during our time together. We do gather for a small circle in the morning, again at snack and then at the end of the day.
My program is on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and you can choose to attend as many during the week as you like. You can find us on our Meetup site (join so you can RSVP to upcoming events), my website Naturallearningalternative.com and my FB page as well.
Please feel free to email me with any questions. We have a only a few spaces left for Fall sessions and we begin September 2nd. Our Open House is August 26th. All the best, Joy
