The essence of Attachment Parenting is about forming and nurturing strong connections between parents and their children.
Attachment Parenting challenges us as parents to treat our children with kindness, respect and dignity, and to model in our interactions with them the way we'd like them to interact with others.
Attachment Parenting isn't new. In many ways, it is a return to the instinctual behaviors of our ancestors.
This body of knowledge offers strong support for areas that are key to the optimal development of children, in API's Eight Principles of Parenting.
Meeting GuidelinesEveryone will be treated with respect and courtesy regardless of their parenting style or views.
- Prepare for Pregnancy, Birth, and Parenting
- Feed with Love and Respect
- Respond with Sensitivity
- Use Nurturing Touch
- Ensure Safe Sleep, Physically and Emotionally
- Provide Consistent and Loving Care
- Practice Positive Discipline
- Strive for Balance in Personal and Family Life
Gentle, positive discipline and guidance of children is encouraged. No hitting, spanking, and/or verbal abuse at group functions. We encourage you to tend to your children as needed throughout the meeting as not to disrupt the API meeting or other meetings that may be going on within the meeting house.
The group should not be used as a vehicle for selling products or services, although group members who wish to do so may talk individually to potential customers in a non-intrusive way before or after group meetings or leave literature for our presentation tables, as long as that literature is relevant to API.
The right to privacy will be respected. No gossiping about group members and their situations outside of the group.
Please do not attend a meeting, or bring a sick child, within the first three days of the start of a respiratory illness, or within forty -eight hours of the cessation of diarrhea or vomiting.
Meetings are open to all interested parties without regard to race, religion, gender, or political viewpoint. No group will espouse or maintain a political or religious affiliation.
There is no smoking at or around functions and meetings.
If you bring a snack, food or drink, please monitor your child so that other families who are attending who perhaps have religious needs or food allergies or medical conditions can feel safe letting their children interact with others.
Organic wholesome snacks may be provided at some of the meetings. All ingredients will be listed so families can be aware.
Unless there is an emergency, please do not leave the meeting house a mess. Clean up after yourself and your children.
