I am currently working on my Master's degree in Education and am in the process of a 1 year long internship through the University of TN in Elementary Education. Ideally when I am finished with obtaining my degree and my teaching license, I would love to start an independent school that I would run out of my own home. I would only take on a maximum of 10 students at a time. I will have a large garden that will benefit us all for great learning opportunities across the curriculum. I will use an eclectic method that combines ways of teaching that I have learned through my university studies, and also studies of the Montessori, Waldorf, Unschooling, and Unit Studies methods. I have really been feeling drawn more and more to having a more simple life and I feel that many in our society are moving in that same direction. Therefore, I would focus also on simple living and learning to be self sufficient. Also, I feel that fine arts are neglected in our public schools and I want my students to have creative opportunities that allow them to reach their full artistic potential. We have a piano, drums, guitars, violins, you name it and we have it here. We have a recording studio in the basement also. So yes I have big dreams! I just wonder how doable this is and if there are any parents out there interested in such a school. I am located in West Knoxville.

That sounds pretty awesome to me. You could even offer classes for homeschoolers, if you wanted to.

I just have a three-year-old, so we haven't decided yet what sort of schooling we'll be doing, but that's the kind of school I like to hear about.
