Hi all! I have some concern about whether or not my 7 week old DD has posterior tongue tie or not, and can't seem to find anyone who knows enough about it to tell me definitely yes or no.

Does anyone know an ENT or LC or anyone anywhere around here that could help us out? They don't even have to feel comfortable fixing it, just diagnosing it!

Thanks!

I'd call Ellen Chetwynd at UNC Family Medicine. Her number is 966-2109. (She's an LC). If she can't help you, she'll know someone who can. (and just FYI, she usually isn't in her office on Mondays).

Ann Conlon-Smith, IBLCL has had training in this area and can identify this problem:

I'm curious if you updated how this went for you anywhere? I hope that Ann was able to help you.

Yes, thanks for asking! I have been so busy trying to organize everything! Ann did help, confirmed the posterior tongue tie. So we have an appointment with Dr. Coryllos on Wed to clip it.

I did update a thread in Breastfeeding challenges and meant to post new thread with some questions but ende up finding most of the answers by searching.

Thanks again!

Glad you updated. Last time I checked, there were no doctors in the area who would clip a posterior tongue tie. I had a postpartum client who thought about flying to NY to get it done. So this is good news. Where is that doctor located?

i'm curious why they would be so hesitant to do a clipping?

There were several that were fine with doing a regular clipping but didn't feel like they knew enough about a posterior tongue tie to clip that. I guess it's tricky?

I wish I had seen this earlier... I took my younger guy to Dr. Coryllos in Long Island. If you have any questions or just want to ask me about our personal experience with tongue tie feel free to PM me! I am shocked that there is nobody here that can do a frenotomy! Good luck!!
