I'm looking for a new pcm for myself who treats me with more respect and values my opinions and concerns. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Specific issues I have are ADD and hypothyroidism so if anyone has recs in those specific areas, that would be cool too

I'm also looking for a new pediatrician for our daughter who again, values my opinions and concerns and treats me with respect as a knowledgeable patient rather than a dummy simply because I'm not a doctor. Specifically, a doctor who is a-okay with limited to no vaccinating.

thanks!

There's a great DAN! doctor (family practitioner) in Franklin, TN if you're willing to drive south of Nashville. His name is Dr. Daniel Kalb, and his practice is called Cool Springs Family Medicine. Here's a link. http://www.csfmed.net/

We actually travel up from Memphis to see him. Plus, he takes insurance :-)

I'm new to Clarksville and have been asking around about this, too. For peds, we have had Schultz and Roads from Premier recommended to us. Not sure about their philosophies, but it was said that Premier is "the best". I figure I will try one of them since DD is overdue for her 12 mo appointment, and just not mention any of my AP stuff and try to keep them on a medical track. (My last ped was a finger-wagger about cosleeping, etc. Ugh!)

new, eh? I need friends

I still need to try out the peoples clinic. I'm all switched over, just need to turn in the new patient stuff and make appointments. I really hope I like it.. I hate dealing with doctors. My main concern for the kiddo is that we are no longer going to be doing vaccines.
I can't remember the name of the first ped we tried here.. I think her first name was barbara, but I can't remember the last. She was AWFUL. She tried to force us to get more vax's than we wanted. We went once and never returned. We also tried Dr tsambassis and he was fine at first but MAN is he awkward. He is also hyper against WIC and goes on rants at almost every visit. He is very pro vax but willing to do a delay schedule as long as you do all vaccines (although he is really against the chicken pox vax) His only really really good thing is that he is very pro breastfeeding. He isn't gung ho about it but he is pleased I'm still nursing and encourages me to go as long as me and kiddo want to. He however did encourage me to start solids at 4 months though.

We can be friends. I've been here since the June, but have moved into a house and am trying to get settled still. I've been to the library a few times, once for the LLL meeting.

Awkward doc? Well, I consider myself to be awkward as well. Maybe he and I would get along. That's cool that he is pro-BF. My last doc totally pushed solids, stopping nursing to sleep, etc.

Hope you have a good experience at the clinic. Let me know how it goes!

I'm going to try to go to the next LLL meeting (its the 18th, right?) to try and meet some people. I've been here since last year april/may ish.... yeah...

and he was WEIRD awkward. I'm awkward too but he was just weird. He'd go on some rant about the evils of WIC and then end in a way where you just can't think of a response and just STARE at something like his pen for a couple minutes. He's a nice guy and goes to the UU church we went to for awhile (I'll go back once my husband deploys... he decided after months of going that it wasn't for him haha) but he was just too much as a doctor. If we hadn't chosen to stop vaxing I might have toughed it out with him as he is fine for just getting a couple shots and getting height/weight but I have no doubts he'd fight over not vaxing. Not worth my time after listening to his rant for the day bahaha

I'll definitely report on how my experience goes... I'm hoping to get appointments for next week today

okay, so I went for a ped appointmet with the kiddo AND I've gone for my own appointment.

I have to say I LOVE Kristin Farmer! She is seriously AWESOME. For my kiddo's appointment, she didn't even bat an eye at our saying we didn't want to vaccinate and she was excited to hear about our birth center birth and we talked a bit about water birth and homebirth (both of which she seemed really excited about.) She was excited to hear that kiddo is still breastfeeding and only gets water otherwise as well. No issues at all with ANYTHING.
Her nurse is really great too. She had daddy do the temp so that kiddo wouldn't cry since she knows him but not the nurse. She was really friendly and made sure we understood we could call her too if we needed anything. Everyone at the office though was really nice and welcoming. Kiddo had to have blood drawn and some other testing and everyone was really careful about that and understood how hard it would be on her AND me. Dr. Farmer kept apologizing for having to hurt her hehe. I had to stand outside the room for a bit for it and a different nursed asked me how I was doing.

For my appointment, I went about hypothyroidism and discussed issues I was having with my previous doctor. She happily listened to my concerns and agreed with me on every point (such as doing a full panel testing, which the last doctor stupidly refused) and she even took out my IUD when I mentioned that that was my bc currently but I wanted it out to be sure that wasn't causing trouble as well along with the thyroid. She was all 'heck yeah we can get that out right now!' She was also really excited to hear that we were planning on a second kiddo even though I said we weren't sure if that would actually be any time soon. She just seems like a really kind and happy and loving person. She is also fun and quick to laughter.

Yep, I'm SUPER happy to have gotten the recommendation to go. THANK YOU Marquess78!

Beauchamp, I bet she would be totally good with cosleeping if your rec doesn't work out. She was totally cool hearing about the more holistic and natural approaches I had been taking with kiddo for the issue we were there for. She seems VERY open to all of the non mainstream things. At least from my first two impressions

Glad you had a good experience! It can be sooo hard to find a good doc. So, just to be clear, she is a family/primary care doctor, and saw both you and your DD? Or OB/GYN and a ped? Sorry if I sound confused. I am sleep deprived because DH has been gone for a week on business.

So...I am guessing you didn't make it to the LLL meeting? You ARE going in September, right?!?

yeah, I couldn't make it because our A/C broke and I had to be home for the guy to come fix it. We were dying with the crazy high heat... of course they fixed it AFTER the heat broke. typical. I was so sad to miss, but I'll make it September, I'm sure. I'll probably be at the library more often in general after this weekend haha. My husband needed the car for work anyway and it would have been hard to work it so I could get it. It is his last week home and its been weirdly busy for him.

She is a family/primary care doctor and sees both of us... her little initials after the name are PA-C... physicians assisstant I guess haha. I probably sound confused too.. don't have an excuse though... I'm just generally a confused person...

i'm late on this, but i have to second dr. kalb.  he specializes in autism research.  he came highly recommended from my bradley birth class full of home birthers.  he's getting pretty busy, so for well-baby checkups and regular visits, they want you to see the nurse practitioner dani williamson.  i was a bit wary of this, but she's also WONDERFUL!!  he's not just a ped, he's a family doc, so everyone can go there.  we drive 40 min. to see him, when DD was young we were going weekly b/c she had issues with her weight gain, but he NEVER told me i had to stop nursing.  *HE* recommended to me a book about vaccinations that made my decision to delay vax.  can't say enough about him!!
