We've just moved from Hawaii and are staying in WIlmington for a little while.  My DD2 suffers from allergies and we need a good ped that will listen to my concerns and have her tested.  Any good choices?

TIA

Mom to 2 beautiful girls, E is 7 and C is 5.

Welcome to Wilmington! I would suggest Dr. Mary Forehand, she was mine and my sister's pediatrician growing up and my mom loved her.

There is also a group called Wilmington Health Associates. I see doctors there and have been pleased. There are all sorts of specialist in the group and your files are accessible by them all so it makes going to the doctor a little more convenient.

Again, welcome to Wilmington... I've lived here for 27yrs so if you have any more questions I would love to help you out.  :)

Do you find either of those places to be supportive of alternative choices (ie no vac, no circ, extended breastfeeding...)

Thanks

Hi and Welcome!  We go to Seaside Pediatrics and have been relatively happy, I usually just go for yearly visits and I am in and out very quick.  It is a small practice so I have had to use urgent care in the past for some things if they couldn't fit my kiddos in, (broken finger).  They are supportive of BFing and leave me alone when I refuse vaxxes.

Dr. Forehand I have heard good things about, although I believe she is part of a large practice.  WHA is not my favorite place, I did not fnd them supportive of alternative views or BFing but I have had other moms say they like them.  You may want to pick up a wilimington parent magazine and a natural awakenings.  They often have lots of infrmation on local resources- and natural awakenings is very focused on alternative and natural healing chioces.  Good Luck and I hope you like it here!

I tried Seaside. They will only accept a new family if the woman is pregnant, otherwise there is a wait list- I am 342.  And they told me they almost never take from the wait list as no one leaves their practice.  Made me wonder if the docs are aware of what people are told when they call.

I haven't found any peds in the Natural Awakening publication.  I'm trying to get into Carolina Peds, but they won't make an appointment until my previous doctor forwards the records, which is taking a very long time.

Please post what you find/learn!  We've been here a year and really need to get check ups.

Thanks,

Dori

Well, we tried Cape Fear Pediatrics and we won't be going back. Both PA's we saw were nice enough but one was searching for a new job somewhere. The front office, however, leaves a LOT to be desired. Never a "good afternoon" or anything just "What's the last name?". A reminder call is just a "courtesy" so don't expect one. Ugh, so not happy with them.

I'll look into WHA since Seaside looks to be closed up to new patients.

Thank y'all for your help!

sorry about Seaside, I had no clue they were that full! Guess that shows the need for peds like them in the area.  Hope WHA works out for ya.  They have qutie a few to choose from so hopefully you can find someone awesome!

We were harassed for having a home birth at Cape Fear after they told us it would be ok. They also charged us for a sick visit when it was a scheduled well visit because baby lost weight in the first week (5%) and then at the follow up said the baby gained too much weight.

I finally have an apt scheduled at Car Ped. at the end of the month.  It took WEEKS to get the apt. and many phone calls.  Will post how it goes...

If you are still needing information, Dr. Karen Harum in Wilmington, NC uses clean vaccines, those without preservatives. Her practice is Clinic for Special Children. (http://clinicforspecialchildren.net) I've heard great things about her care, especially surrounding vaccinations and vaccine scheduling.
