Hi all!

I currently live in Murfreesboro, TN, with my spouse and 4 year old, and am 11 weeks pregnant. We plan to move to Memphis in mid-to-late September.

Can anyone give me recommendations for VBAC-friendly OB-GYNs in Memphis? Birthing centers would be great, but since I've already had one section, I don't feel comfortable trying to deliver at home. My current OB shut me down pretty quickly on the VBAC option because of the risk of rupture (even though he's supposedly "VBAC-friendly," my having a prior cesarean makes me too much of a risk for a VBAC?), and while he has very good reviews from other patients, the only reason I'm still seeing him is that I know I'm moving anyway.

I'm also interested in doulas, though I've never used one before. My spouse will be gone for several months of this pregnancy, and so we are considering a doula so I can have some one-on-one support.

Anything else anyone can tell me about living in Memphis would be awesome -- as far as good places for kids, shopping, homeschool groups, anything like that.

Thank you so much for any and all replies!

Hi, I was just coming here to post my website in case anyone is looking for a doula and saw your post.  WELCOME!  Perhaps it's a challenge to move during a pregnancy and have to start with a new doctor, but this may be your chance to work with a VBAC friendly doctor so you can have a successful birth!

Also, we have a very nice group of women here in the Memphis area you may be interested in getting to know.  Please contact me.  I'd love ot hear from you!  And congrats on your pregnancy.

You should contact Savannah Hilton.  She's a birth doula and childbirth educator.  She is in the process of moving from Fairview (west of Nashville) to Memphis, so maybe you could even meet before you both move.

I am also planning a relocation to Memphis, and would love to know whom to seek out and whom to avoid!  Any recommendations? :)
