Does anyone know about this new diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis law? Dh just told me they started suspensions of 6th graders who are not vaxed.

Fill me in if you know anything, I'm getting my ire up...

It would seem that all parents were notified that the students had to be vaccinated before school started, with a 30 day extension. The extension has run out. They had fair warning. If the parents are non-vaxing with religious or medical exemptions those still apply. I don't know why anyone is surprised that their kids are being suspended because the parents dragged their feet on meeting a deadline they knew was coming up, whether it was to have them vaccinated or submit the exemption paperwork.

I don't think that's a new law, either on the vax end or the suspension end. ???

It is a new law, it looks like it was passed in January.

Also, not all of us are exempting under medical or religious reasons.

What other reasons are there that NC accepts for exemption?

Nobody even asked me so I don't know. We registered Max, had his records sent from Texas, and no one said a thing.

^This is exactly right. Its not the first time there's been "mandatory" vaccination deadlines like this. It doesn't really have any bearing on those of us with valid exemptions.

Alrighty then... it just sounded scary from the article. I knew the Texas laws but I'm not that familiar (yet) with the laws here.

Yeah, they make it sound scary so parents will comply. If you're using a religious exemption for Max than you're good to go.

Are you naming the new baby Iris? That's my niece's name; I love it.

And I just have a "we're not doing it" exemption from Texas for Max because you don't have to give a reason there. Sigh. Texas... so hot and treeless yet so full of good midwifery and vaccination laws, lol.
