This closure impacts the hospital and out of hospital birthing community.
A board meeting is being held at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital on Monday, April 5th at 12pm to discuss the closure of the labor & delivery unit. Concerned members of the community have organized a meeting on Monday, April 5th at 11am outside of Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital. The intention is to show community support for keeping maternity care services at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital open and to express our concerns. The event will be covered by the local news media, WSLS Channel 10 and the editors of both the Rockbridge Advocate & The News-Gazette have been contacted.
This is all happening very fast and so the community response must also be very fast, in order to make a difference. We are asking anyone who is able (mothers, fathers, babies, families- epscially those who have had births at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital, concerned members of the community, & professionals) to show up on Monday to express your concerns and show your support. Also, home birth families in Rockbridge County please come to express your concerns about losing our local access to a higher level of maternity care when needed. This will have a big impact on the home birth community. If you are unable to make it on Monday, please consider contacting the CEO of Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital directly. Also please forward this email and share this important information with as many people as possible. Community support CAN make a difference!
