My little sister just found out she's pregnant! She's not that little- she's 19, but still my little sister to me!

She works in Falls Church but lives in Harpers Ferry, WV. She's interested in home birth but being a first time mom, she is nervous and hasn't completely made up her mind yet. Her health insurance is with Kaiser.

Can anyone recommend a provider for her?

I don't know of a CPM around HP BUT I would recommend that she goes the HB route and avoids Kaiser doctors (it's an HMO so she's stuck w/ Kaiser doctors). I had Kaiser for my 2nd and it was *awful*! (long story) If she is into a very medical birth...Kaiser is perfect. If not, I recommend she stays at home w/ a MW.

Hm...now that I think about it, Kaiser did cover the NoVa birthcenter (sorry, can never remember the name). If she decides against a HB, that would definitely be a great choice.

She might look into the midwives at Loudoun Co Hospital - the Birthing Inn. Definitely a "hospital" but seems like a good one to check out.

I'm meeting with Birth By Design tomorrow, Peggy Franklin, tomorrow, a HB MW. There are options around here.

Are you in NoVa? I've got some great recs for HB MWs there. :-) Not all CPMs in NoVa take the same approach WRT working w/ Mamas.

To the OP....ok...check these out...

Ten Moons

Marshall Midwifery

Those are the closest ones to Harpers Ferry that I can think of.
