Hey all! My husband may be transferring his job to either Fredricksburg or Williamsburg. We would love to live in the country, but we aren't sure of any rural areas in Virginia that would be fairly close (about an hour away) to either of these cities. We are also on a budget at the moment and would like to live somewhere fairly cheap. Anyone have any ideas of areas to look at???

We live in the area. Welcome! Check out www.franklymls.com and enter Spotsylvania as a parameter. Spotsylvania county is large, and the southern areas are quite rural. You can drive 10 minutes out of Fredericksburg and be in farm country. If you are looking for large land parcels, South or Western Spotsy county is probably the best choice. For Williamsburg, you shouldn't have a problem finding rural areas. We have friends in Gloucester, and they love it. We really like living here as well.

There are a good variety of homes on the market here, both in style and budget. Buuuut, many of them are short sales, and if you are looking for a place quickly, that might not be your best option. If you have any more question, I am glad to help.

My dd does horse therapy in Toano right outside of Williamsburg. It's really beautiful, and rural, lot's of farms. The housing here is pretty expensive, compared to Texas anyway. Good Luck!
