We are currently living in NOVa and considering a summer move to Cville. We have a 4 year old son that will be starting kindergarten in the fall and I am looking for info on good schools to consider, also looking for recommendations on neighborhoods. We love open spaces and enjoying growing our own vegetables. We have heard good thing about Hollymead, Crozet,and Nelson County. We plan to rent for the first year so that we will have time to familiarize ourselves with the area. I will telecommute and will have to travel to Harrisonburg and take Amtrak to DC occasionally. I am a working mama looking for a community with:

-High regards for sustainability and green living

-Access to organic foods/local farms

-Progressive thinking

-Holistic/Alternative health options,  alternate/no-vax friendly docs

-Low crime

-Outdoor activities

-Good schools that think outside the box (not traditional), my biggest concern is getting into a school that crushes creativity and that doesn't value a child as an individual.

My husband and I, are looking forward to our move and meeting like minded individuals in the area. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Check out Belvedere, a green community off of Rio Rd. As far as schools, the 2 that come to mind are Mountaintop Montessori and Charlottesville Waldorf School. Oh, and Free Union Country school. I highly recommend Downtown Family Healthcare for what you are seeking. Also heard good things about Dr. Ogan but haven't had any personal experience. Feel free to pm me if you want!
