My husband is interviewing for a job in Jasper. Anyone live there or have info? Is it AP friendly, extended breastfeeding? Are their any homebirth midwives around?

Thanks for the help!

Ooh me! Im in Huntingburg (3 miles from Jasper).
The DONA office here is closed now. DOnt know why.
But Grounded is a great health food store and we also have another health food store called Winklers and also have a great herbalist, Sunshine specialties. She is a massage therapist also and my 2nd cousin.
There is a few of us Breastfeeding, AP families here, but not many.
If you want to PM me I can answer any questions you have.

Hi! I'm one of the 4 LLL leaders in Jasper. We have one of the oldest LLL groups in the state. And we are still having meetings. The first Tuesday of every month. This area has a few crunchy people. You have to know how to find them. LOL

Yes the DONA office closed, but they didn't do anything for the public. It was just the business office. It no longer made good business sense to keep the office in the middle of no where.

I am about an hour and a half away. Just wanted to say hi! I don't know anyone else except one family in the area who are AP. Looks like I'll have to try out that way!

There is a hb midwife based out of Bloomington that travels.

I'm not in Jasper now, but I had to respond because my husband and I are originally from Jasper (he was born there, I was an early transplant). We moved to Bloomington after we married. 90% of our family and friends are still in Jasper or B-town. :-)

Anyway, surprisingly for such a small town (albeit one that has experienced growth over the years), there is a small but strong AP community. The non AP community will accept you if you don't back down and don't argue with them. (Even with the influx of "outsiders", there is still a strong German American contingent, and they are notoriously stubborn).

GL with your move, wherever it takes you!

Also, I know a few homebirth midwives who serve folks in Dubois Co, but they travel from B-town and Indy.
