We are starting a secular homeschooling co-op in St Clair County Michigan. If you are interested, please check out our group
. Our first planning meeting is tomorrow at 1pm at the Marysville library!
My husband and I have been homeschooling for 3 years (not in a row). Our kids (8 and 9) went to public school for Kindergarten and 1st grade. We did home preschooling and homeschooled all last school year and this year. We plan to homeschool throughout high school.
In our experience with other co-ops a 3.5 hour day consisting of two 45 min sessions, a 30 min lunch and two more 45 min sessions is one effective way to start off, but we'll find what works for us as a group. Also, consider what kinds of subjects/topics you'd be interested in teaching to the kids as a parent and what age kids you'd be interested in teaching. In our experience homeschooling co-ops seem to divide kids into ages birth-5, 6-12, and teens...but, again, there's no one-size-fits-all way to do this. Participation from everyone on some level is what makes this a cooperative.
If you're in the area, please join us!
