I am new to the MI Downriver area with U-M PCP and every ped I call is into CDC schedules. I am not looking for a holistic/herbal doctor, just one with an open mind and some support for alternate schedules.
Can anyone recommend a ped for my May 2011 first born child?
Hi, rusty 77!
We live Downriver too. We go to Susan Chamberlain/Heather Cadena in Trenton. They might be on a CDC schedule too, I don't know because we vaccinate. When I had newborns, my insurance didn't cover vaccines, so I had to go to the health dept. When we would go for check-ups at Chamberlain's, they were never "upset" if we were behind. They never pushed vaccination on me, that was something I chose to do.
We've also had some interactions with Dr. Bronni who is in Southgate. She was an emergency room ped. when we had some issues with our son years ago and she was really good.
Those are the couple I know about. Hope you find someone you like!
Turke and Thomashow are definitely pro-vaccination but are also willing to adjust the schedule. He was fine when we delayed Hep B, etc. The nurses that do the shots will remind you what your baby is on schedule for but are fine when you decline and not pushy.
I have also heard that Liberty Pediatrics are good with alternate scheduling and also The anthroposophical center in Ann Arbor is great they helped my friends work out an alternate schedule but they can be tricky with insurance I think.

Hard to get accepted as a new patient sometimes so call right away
Hope this helps!
We see Dr. Susanna Lin at Chelsea Pediatrics in Chelsea, MI. I have never had an issue with them regarding vaccinations. Neither of my children have received any at this point. I had to sign their form (the wording altered to my liking) but even the nurses seem to be fine with it. Several have even commented on how healthy my children are. It might be a drive but it's worth it.... the staff is wonderful!
... wife to a wonderful husband & mama to 2 amazing kiddos!
We moved away to the UP about a year ago, but used Liberty Pediatrics for our unvaccinated son from birth to 1 year old. They weren't "okay" with not vaccinating, per se, but still gave us care. They may not be accepting new families, so do call ASAP to rule them in or out.
I don't have personal experience with her, but I have heard good things about Amanda Kaufman, who is part of the UM Family Medicine group (I think she's at Domino Farms). If I had it to do over, I'd likely go to her before Liberty.
Dr. Saba Cossor is about as great about alternative stuff as a mainstream doctor can be, I think. Great about our extended breastfeeding and alternative vaccination schedule. She's downriver at:
