Walk for Midwifery
The Michigan Midwives Association (in collaboration with the International Confederation of Midwives) invites you to a 5k walk/run on May 5, International day of the Midwife. This event is in accordance with other 5ks in more than 88 countries and will merge as a global event where midwives and supporters around the world will be advocating to improve maternal and newborn health in our communities and countries, as well as for women in countries far away. Together we will be walking 1000s of kilometres, circling the globe, as we proclaim our commitment to improving maternal and newborn care for all women and their newborns, wherever they live.
Please consider participating with us! The event is being held at the gorgeous Hawk Island Park and all profits will go towards funding safe mother baby initiatives in developing countries. Walkers and runners of all ages and skill levels are invited to join in. This event includes a fun run for Kids, prizes, and an award for the biggest family and fastest stroller. We will have a pep rally with MANA president Gera Simkins and a BYO picnic lunch afterwards. Learn more information and register online here http://www.runningfoundation.com/Road_to_Durban_5k.html
Later in the day there is a cookie delivery for our legislators to let them know that their constiuents are in support of out of hospital birth. That evening there is an Earthworks concert and silent auction at Gone Wired Coffee House. (more information about these events can be found here http://www.friendsofmichiganmidwives.com/events.htm)
