Hello,

New here but I'm in Fruitport, MI and looking for a doctor that will do VBA2C or a low cost midwife.

I do not know of a doctor off hand, but I have a friend who is studying to be a doula and may know more options in the area.  We are in Grand Rapids, so not that far!!

Welcome! I'm flower's friend. I'm not sure what midwives you've looked at in the area. There are a several good ones. You may get one of them to help you with a sliding scale or possibly help you negotiate with your insurance. I know Yolanda from Birthsong can give you some pointers there. My favorite hospital group is http://www.obgyninfert.com/. The midwives are fabulous, and if you did risk out there are three O.B.s in the practice as well.

Insurance would be Medicaid or out of pocket.

The midwives at http://www.obgyninfert.com/ see all their Medicaid clients unless you risk out. I'm not sure about what Michigan's Medicaid covers as far as CPMs or CNMs in a homebirth setting.

I just looked it up, and I guess some CNMs can except Medicaid. I seem to remember a CNM home midwife in Muskegon when I was looking for myself that was willing to work with insurance companies. I don't know if she excepts Medicaid or not. As you call around though. I would ask if they offer a sliding scale. It's hard to work in birth. The cost of supplies and training is higher than what people are able to pay here in Michigan.

Does anyone have any experience with the maternal-fetal medicine associates in GR?
