Are there playgroups or other fun things I should check out?
I don't know about playgroups, but Firefly (in Clintonville) is a good play cafe... you pay $4 or $6 for your little depending on their age, and then they can play in the space and you can hang out. Also COSI (science museum, downtown) is rumored to have a great toddler play area. We haven't been since kiddo was about 6 months old, but I think we will go there more this winter. We bought a zoo membership this year too but haven't gotten around to going as much as I'd like. I'm not sure of the best way to meet other parents. I met some moms through a breastfeeding group that I joined and then through another group I joined through that one.
EDIT: just discovered the own is expecting and is going to appointment only consults on cloth diapering and babywearing. That said, it can't hurt to get in touch with her to get hooked up with the moms group that used to meet up there! Good luck! If I still lived in C-bus, I would totally hang out with you!
