Hi mamas - I'm new to the area (we live in Oak Park/ Southfield) and need a general or pediatric dentist. Doesn't have to be super natural, just willing to go along with us when we say "no silver fillings" and "no fluoride" and won't lecture us.

I also need a pediatrician who is ok with a non-vaxxing family. The practice our new neighbors and friends use force the parent to sign a non-vax waver at every single visit AND have the children/baby wait in the hallway for any visit. Sounds like NOT a good fit for us.

From perusing the site, it looks like Dr. Park-Davis and her practice are recommended, however, I am hesitant to use them because

1) in theory, I would like a male since I have 3 boys (oldest being 12) and I think we're all just more comfortable being examined by same-gender doctors

2) all else being equal, we'd love a pediatrician and not a general/family practitioner

3) at 25 minutes away, looking for something a bit closer

Any leads??
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for bumping, but still no replies :-(

Are we being too picky? If anyone has recommendations that don't fit all our requirements above please share; we can try to make anything work!

I've been away from that area for a few years, but for a dentist, we used to see Dr. Nyquist in Royal Oak. We liked him and they are very familier with holistic modalties. You should be able to find his website easy enough with google.

I can't really answer your other question because it seems like the peds that I've heard good things about are female, while the family practice docs are male...opposite of what you are looking for.

Thanks for your insight... have you or anyone heard of Beverly Hills Pediatrics? Supposedly they aren't anti-vaccine friendly by any means but they'll be willing to go along with us.

Is Ann Arbor too far for you tallulahma? If not, you could try Amanda Kaufman. She's family practice and integrative medicine.

Were orginally from Clawson Mi but we recently moved. However when we still see the Dentist at http://www.kidsgrins.com/ in Rochester. They aren't "Natural" persay but they were not pushy when it came to certain things. However they all have REALLY wonderful staff members.

I ended up just making an appointment through a dentist I found that takes our insurance (a local company in Ohio, from where we came) and not too many dentists here take it, so it's basically luck of the draw with that. Called Palm Family Dentistry, anyone heard of them? Appointments are next week - so if anyone heard of them I'd love some feedback!

As to the pediatrician, we still don't have :-( and Ann Arbor is too far for us (busy working mom + 40 minute ride each way = craziness). At this point, I'll take any male in our area who even if not naturally minded, so long as he won't harass us (and whose office staff won't either) about no vaxxing.

We go to Western Wayne Physicians in Livonia, MI 734.462.0090 and primarily see Dr. Schmidt. In 14 years of parenting I've never been given a problem about not vaxing. We had an initial conversation about it and it's never come up since. She's a family doc (MD) so she sees all of us and also I'm given no problem about not doing well visits (since the point of them is really about vaxing anyway).

We also have a great family dentist we see in Plymouth, Dr. Penny Flury though I don't care for her partner much. For pediatric dentistry we have used Dr. Salwa Atwan and I really like her...we've done both ceramic and the standard fillings with both dentists.

Hope that helps?
