Hi,

I'm moving to MI in a few months before I have my second child. I had a midwife during my first pregnancy and loved her! I wanted a water birth but had some complications and ended up having an epidural after a long time. I still would like to do a water birth for this new baby. I've been doing a lot of Google searching and reading posts in these forums. At first I though Hutzel Women's Hospital sounded great, but then their website is hard to navigate and I can't find any profiles of CNM's that work there to make an appointment with! Then I read on this forum some bad reviews of Hutzel. U of M seems to have a good reputation, but I can't find out (without calling which I'm not ready to do since I haven't moved yet) if they allow water births or not?! So if anyone has some specific suggestions of midwives and these two hospitals and how they compare with water births, labor support, and a more "natural" environment, I would greatly appreciate it!

Welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy and your move! It looks like your post might have been missed, so I'm bumping it up for attention. :bump: Anyone have a recommendation to share?

To all, please remember that we do not allow negative reviews of health care centers or health care providers in our discussion posts. As explained in our guidelines:

Positive healthcare provider reviews are welcome, but we do not wish to host threads/posts that cast care providers/care centers in a negative light. We ask you to take any negative commentary to PM. Please see our HCP review guidelines for further clarification here.

U of M is the only hospital I know of around here that technically allows waterbirth...prehaps Hutzel too? I believe a tub is not guaranteed to be available, though. As far as comparing hospitals, I'm not sure how we are supposed to share pros and cons of our experiences without saying anything negative....kind of misses the point imo.

I am delivering my first child at U of M using the U of M Midwives.  So far I am very happy with the care I am getting from the Midwives and I am really looking forward to delivering at U of M hospital based off of reviews and stories I have heard from other moms.  I also know that U of M does allow birthing in the tub, whereas St. Joseph Mercy does not. (The other hospital in town)

I highly recommend the Alternative Birth Center located in Providence Hospital in Southfield. I had an amazing natural birth experience there just six weeks ago! They have tubs in the rooms and you are free to birth however and wherever you choose! I had planned for a water birth but there was a snowstorm and we didn't quite make it in time ;) The whole experience was wonderful! The midwives have an office there in Southfield and in Novi.
