Has anyone else noticed a huge increase in the mosquito population? We used to get a couple at dusk and now they are on the attack all day long. I have had to resort to bug lotion on my 2 year old just to go outside and play, but they are biting even in parking lots and downtown. If it was just our yard, I would think we had a source, but it's everywhere! Anyone else under attack?

Yes! I noticed the day that I left the bathroom window open all day. The window has no screen and by the time we got back at dusk, there were literally THOUSANDS of mosquitoes on the bathroom ceiling. The whole thing was blanketed with them. So nasty.

I wonder what gives? Usually they are better after a frost!

Indiana here but we've never had misquitos like this year. I'm a little discouraged if you guys still have them after frost! That's the one thing about it getting colder I've been looking forward too.

I don't know if your areas in Michigan had flooding this year but we did. That is what they are attributing to the increase here.

I was just talking to my DH about them today too. I was eaten alive all day today at work, and my girls were covered in bites when I got home tonight. DH had them outside playing earlier today, and he did use bug spray on them, but it obviously did not deter the little monsters at all. Maybe it's because it got cold, then warmed up again yesterday and today...might be that the larvae think its spring again?

Ok, so I'm glad it's not just my town getting plagued!

We did have some flooding, but not terrible. We do live right next to a big nature preserve, so I know the swamp contributes, but usually the bats keep the 'squitos down enough that we don't notice them except at dusk.

I'm covered in bites.:
I live in a swamp, and am pretty used to the bug battle too. They usually don't last this long into the year though!

You say that... Dh watched a show the other day (man vs. wild) where the guy was in siberia. dead of winter, like -30F. he sheltered in a cave and found LIVE mosquitoes in the back of the cave!!! I was in shock and horror at the thought. didn't help he ate one, i'm sure.

Yes! I agree. Funny coincidence to see this thread because last night (between about 6-7:30 p.m.) the kids and I were at the playground and it was just horrible with skeeters! I have at least half a dozen bites and am scratching like crazy today. I really don't remember them being this bad this far into the Fall.

We had few mosquitoes in July/Aug, now they are everywhere all day long. It's awful! I'm praying for more frost!

yeah they're horrible here too!!! we've never had them at our place, and this year they're out and biting all times of day. we had to leave the cider mill early yesterday because there were sooooo many mosquitos. i read in a local paper all the foreclosures are part of the problem. houses uncared for and uninhabited with standing water has made it easier for the mosquitos to breed. just one more perk of the lovely economic disaster going on.

Indiana here too. Let my toddler out two days ago - with bug spray - and she has bites all over her eyelids . The weather has been beautiful and it won't last but I feel like I can't even let my kids play outside.

We are in northwest Ohio and were out enjoying the great weather and our poor son has bites all over his head, they ate up where we didn't have any spray on him, around his eyes and temples, poor guy.

Actually, that makes a ton of sense.

One tried to bite me THROUGH my pants today. Of course, while I was gleefully killing him, 3 more landed and tried to bite. I hate using bug repellent, but my poor toddler must be a pint down in blood from them. I kept him inside today because I couldn't bear to spend an hour afterwards scratching the bites! And Afterbite isn't working at all on these bites.
