Does she do work outside of Metro Partners/Providence Hospital?

I am impressed with her.

No, I think she is strictly in-hospital or ABC.

If you decide to use the midwives at Metro Partners, you really don't get to pick who will be with you when you're in labor, although you can pick the MW for each prenatal visit. You already probably know this though

Trish is pretty good too, but I liked Mary a bit better.

Didn't you have a c with S?

I can't remember if you did or not but if you did you cannot birth at ABC as a VBAC.

Have you been to the new office in Novi? It is a 50-60 minute drive one way from where I'm at in Troy.

Yes....I had a csection....I called their office and they told me the midwives can catch vbac in the main hospital....not in the ABC.

They added Mary to the practise just weeks before I gave birth. She was the on call when I went into labor although I never saw her. I only saw her for one prenatal at the end. She made me feel very uncomfortable for some reason. She told me that if I ended up with a c-section that it would be ok and that its only a little bump on the road of parenthood. I found that to be really upsetting as I was a few weeks away from having a natural birth in the ABC. I wonder if it was intuition that made her say that (I did end up with a transfer and c/s) I guess I'll never know the answer to that question.

Sounds like a lot of people liked her so maybe my situation was purely because she was brand new and I didn't want to meet someone new at the end of my pregnancy.

(Makes me SO happy that I have a set of homebirth midwives for this baby that I will see from start to finish!)

I LOVED Mary...and my husband did too! We were both so happy with her. I started going to Metro Partners at 24 weeks and rotated among all three midwives - Mary, Trish, and Jess (not with practice anymore). I liked them all, but both my husband and I liked Trish the best and hoped we would have her for the birth at Providence-ABC. Mary ended up being on call for our birth and she was wonderful! I was in labor (at the ABC) from 11am on a Sunday to 7am on Monday, and Mary was with us the WHOLE time! And we were her 6th birth of the weekend! I had a wonderful doula as well, and Mary still stayed with us the whole time. I would highly recommend Mary and I have heard great birth stories about Trish as well!

Mary is fantastic, IMO. She wasn't on call for my ABC birth, but she was so kind, caring, and intuitive during my exams, I'd recommend her to anyone.

I really liked Mary a lot!! I absolutely LOVED Jess, but she left.

She wasn't on call for the birth, but I did see her a lot at the end. I went two weeks overdue and she helped a lot in working with the OBs and making sure I got to labor in the ABC- even though it did end with a transfer.

I like Trish if I do have an actual medical question, but Mary is great for all the natural and alternative methods.

I think the next thing we patients should pressure them on is no antibiotics for GBS positive. Mary has read about using hibiclens. It would be great if we could get them onboard with that. It is actually what the WHO recommends. Taking the antibiotics can increase chances of E Coli, and hibiclens kills that also. For my second if I am GBS positive I absolutely will not take the antibiotics- we battled thrush and are still trying to get our guts in check.

Congrats!!

Congrats!!
I was thinking about that last night....I'd love not to have to be hooked up to an IV as soon as I went into the hospital!

As far as I know, you can always opt-out of the antibiotics...the only thing is that you have to have a supportive pediatrician otherwise they'll give you a hassle when you want to be discharged. I was even given a few names of peds that would have no problem if I were to either refuse the GBS test or decline abx in the case of a positive. Given the venue and practice that they work with, I highly doubt that the hibiclens would be a standard of care, but they definitely support patient choice in the matter.

There is no reason, though that you could not decline the ABX and use the hibiclens on your own. You can get it at the drug store. I'd still get a supportive ped, but if you want to decline the ABX and feel better about treating in general, that would be an option.
