I've heard mixed reviews...just curious. I don't know that I'd go with him though since he only takes BCBS...

No, but I so hoped he'd start accepting BCN. I know they tried to get approval but couldn't for some reason. He was my first choice for an OB.

I'm curious about how he is... he's the same dr. Cayle who does CST, right? His office is right by my place. Does he practice obstetrics any different than most ob's?

Yes. It appears that way from his website.

I heard about him from someone who had a doula client who delivered with him. My info is therefore second (well, really third!) hand and I might not remember correctly, but I believe the doula was quite impressed with everything, except how he handled the delivery of the placenta. I can't remember exactly what it was, but he was aggressive and interventive when he didn't need to be (everything was normal, no complications, but he proceeded to intervene immediately after the birth, so it's not like a period of time had even elapsed). Beyond that, though, she thought he was really good. So if you wanted to see him, I would just make sure you explicitly state how you want the delivery of the placenta to be handled and make sure he's on board with it.

Mama to M (7/05) and S (5/08) my surprise !!!

This is also third hand, but the midwife I work with just had a birth at the birth center with a woman who transferred out of his care at 37.5 weeks because he waited to tell her until 37 weeks that the hospital had a new policy on VBAC and he couldn't do her VBAC, she'd have to schedule a cesarean. I haven't called Beaumont to find out whether they now have a VBAC ban, because that would be news to me...but if it's true, it would be a good thing to question why he waited so long to tell her. Was he fighting for her, or did he just decide to wait and tell her until it was "too late" to switch practitioners? I HOPE it's the first, I really do! I've heard too much good about him for the second to be just assumed, IF that is true about Beaumont. I hope it's not.

All I can say is he is not a good choice for VBAC. He is a solo practitioner, and has to be on site if you are induced as a VBAC, which is only possible for a short amount of time for any solo practitioner. That is likely why he stopped doing it. The hospital policy made it impossible for him to reasonably offer that service. Probably he is fine for a regular birth, but VBAC is just not a good idea. I have worked with him in that capacity, so I know.

Well, statistically it's not generally a good idea to induce a VBAC anyway...that wouldn't seem to me to be the ONLY reason the hospital wouldn't let him do ANY VBAC...but perhaps that's only the part of the story he gave. Dunno.

He takes other ins. last I knew.

edited to add:
I have also heard mixed reviews for him. I chose not to go with him personally. That was just me though and I didn't even get to meet him they kept canceling my appointments. I would not ever use him personally.
