CNM's may not attend homebirths in Ohio. Quite plainly, they may be permitted by law, but since they require the backing of an OBGYN, they cannot practice outside of a medical environment; the docs won't allow it.
A DEM or a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) will attend a homebirth.
There was another CNM near Lima who also used to attend home births with her consultant's blessing. I have lost touch with her, so not sure if she still does.
So it isn't a matter of they can't, some don't want to, and others do.
