Any reason you prefer not to go to Mercy and use her there?
This is an interesting option. I did not know / did not remember she worked there. I will look into this.

UCMC is literally walking distance from me, hence far more convenient. I have also heard nice reviews about their midwives. They are also baby friendly and apparently have more progressive rules than most hospitals. I wonder what the policies at Mercy would be re monitoring, etc.

I had my DS at UCMC with the CNM Karen Schreiber catching... well, 'attending' - DH caught!

UCMC is great. They didn't blink at things on my birth plan like intermittment monitoring only with doppler or EFM, minimal VEs (just to admit me & confirm I'm done before pushing.) DH catching, pushing in any position, no time limits, etc.

BUT - you can't birth in the water. You can labor in the tub, but you have to get out once you're ready to push. At Mercy, you can birth in water.

I don't know how much truth there is to this, but I've read here that if you want to birth AT Mercy hospital, you're better off with Kathy Sloan's CNM group since Evelyn doesn't attend births there as regularly - she doesn't have relationships with the nurses, etc. (Even though she does have privledges.)

I also wouldn't dismiss the impact of the commute down into the city from Bel Air - especially when you're going weekly for checkups at the end, and when you're in labor!

Subbing for the same thing, I was recently mentioned Evelyn I believe because she does take di/di twins, can folks confirm this? I'll call on Monday but would love to know sooner.

partners.gif 2twins.gif  So what if I don't fit cleanly into a defined parenting style, my kids don't fit into a personality archetype either!

Sorry to hijack this post with so many questions going already, but I've been trying to find a MW who will attend a homebirth in DC and I've heard so many good things about Evelyn. Does anybody know if she attends in DC? Does she come to you for prenatal appts. or do you go to her? I've been playing phone tag with her office for a few weeks b/c I can never seem to call when they're open, or pick up the phone when the call me back! I will call again but if someone could post or PM me that would be fantastic!!

Thanks!

MAMAS midwives, Erin Fulham and Mairi Rothman, CNMs attend homebirths in DC. Website is www.mamasmidwives.com
They are located in Takoma Park, some visits at your home, some in theirs. They have monthly info meetings where you can meet them, hear about practice, and call for more info.

Perhaps Joey changed her practice? When I interviewed her back in December 09, I asked her about twins and breech and I definitely didn't get told "no". I'm not a VBAC so that didn't come up on my radar. This is no reflection on you, but I've heard a lot of rumors about Joey having a more medicalized practice that have all wound up being very untrue. I think it's very important that women wanting homebirth do their research thoroughly and ask the midwife themselves before making a final decision. We've seen some great examples of this with Evelyn in this very thread

*Edit
I was looking at Joey's website and she has a few HBACs and at least one HBA2C listed in her client photos.

Evelyn is a great option, but MAMAS are closer to you and come to you for some prenatal care. Susan Dodge also come to you, I believe, and is another wonderful midwife who attends births in DC. KC is another option- I think she sees clients in a Takoma Park office.
