I'm looking for a person who can cut a new, short hairstyle. They have to be good at doing that, as I cut hair myself (not professionally) and know when a person is just "hacking" at the hair. I expect to find a person who can cut hair evenly, and carefully, taking time to go back and check it all around. I don't care if the person does hair in a salon or from their home.

Does anyone know of a person who can cut hair in this manner? I am in the Gaithersburg/Germantown/upper Rockville area.

Thanks for any leads!

She's in Bethesda. She's quite nice, takes plenty of time with you. Give her a ring! She's good at cutting all types of hair (even my husband's perfectly straight, but very bouncy hair) but is considered especially good with curly hair.

I am astoundingly lucky! Mother to my beloved child since 01/06/07. Fighting cancer since 09/06/07.

Low cost:

Shamsie at the Hair Cuttery in the Muddy Branch Square shopping center in Gaithersburg.

Higher cost and further away:

Amanda at Cavalleros in Columbia. (She is superb)

I live in your area as well and have been searching for three years looking for someone good with short hair. Those are my picks. A close runner-up would be anyone at O'Hair in the Kentlands, but it's $70 a pop (no tipping allowed though).

Thank you both for the responses. I've got a Thursday appointment with Jackie. I'll let you know how it goes. I may try O'Hair or Cavallero's next time. Addy's Mom, did you see anyone specific at O'Hair?

Valerie or Laura are both great. I think Valerie only has appointments on Thursdays though.

Jackie did a great job on my hair! She cut it in just the shape I wanted. She listened to what I wanted, took her time, and checked it at the end. Oh, and I love the private studios.

Sounds like you had fun! My DH just got back from a haircut with her this afternoon. She's so great! I am planning to get some color from her in February. And yeah, I agree: the private studio is wonderful.

I just went to O'Hair and had a great haircut! And so close to where I live. Thanks again for the referral!

Turns out that Valerie will be leaving O'Hair very soon she was great. She's not cutting hair anymore. I'm going to try another stylist there.
