Hi, I just found out I'm due to have #2! And I'm looking for a midwife for prenatal care and delivery. Ds was born underwater at Special Beginnings, and I'd love to repeat the waterbirth experience... but not the SB experience, unfortunately. Does anyone know of a midwife in the DC/NoVA/MD area who will do waterbirths? I have United Healthcare insurance and would need someone who works with that. I'm open to homebirth or birth center, but I'd like to avoid the hospital if I can help it.

My dream MW is also someone who will be able to relate to me (instead of look at me politely, but a little wierded out ) about the spiritual aspect of my motherhood, Christian (or specifically Catholic), and has some knowledge of NFP or similar natural method and could help me with that in post-natal care.

Thanks for any and all tips relating to any of these qualities!!

I don't know if this is helpful to you or not - but check out a local teaching couple from couple to couple league ccli.org if you want help with NFP. I am Catholic and with SB and very happy so far... but then again, I haven't gone in expecting them to help me with NFP. Good luck in your search.

greenbeagle, thanks but the NFP idea was more of an afterthought, my primary concern now is finding somebody to catch my babe! I have heard of lots of people who have had good experiences with HB -- of course I had no expectations of them teaching me NFP, but my issue was with how they handled my care immediately after the birth and some repercussions from that. Feel free to PM me if you want more information.
