I am expecting my first baby in November and I'm planning to breastfeed. I think our midwives will provide a lot of guidance and support at first, but I'm also thinking of joining a breastfeeding support group of some sort. I've looked at the websites for both the local LLL groups and the Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington downtown (I live in PG County right near the NE DC border). Is there a big difference between these two organizations?
Congratulations on your upcoming addition!
I think both LLL and the Breastfeeding Center would be excellent in terms of support before and after baby is born. They both have organized meetings with Certified Lactation Consultants. One difference is that the Breastfeeding Center offers class events and I would recommend going to one of their Breastfeeding Basics classes a month or two before your due date.
Both are great resources. Maybe you'll find one group's meetings work better with your schedule after baby is born or perhaps one is a shorter commute.
