So we finally got around to taking our 3-year old to a pediatric dentist who wants to do TONS of work, putting her under sedation to do it, and half of it she wants to do with metal crowns, which I am... not thrilled with.  I want to take her somewhere for a second opinion, preferably finding someone who will (at least) agree to not use any metals for the work needed.  Does anyone have a pediatric dentist they're particularly fond of?  We're in Anne Arundel County (Ft Meade specifically), but I really wouldn't mind driving a bit for someone who was worth it.

Does she have to see a pediatric dentist? My father was a dentist and he saw kids as young as 3 or 4. Try your regular dentist if you like them. Our daughter sees the family dentist now, and it was a much better fit then the pediatric dentist. We saw Dr Kanter in Ellicott City (pediatric dentist), Dorsey Hall area when our regular dentist referred her, and she seemed very un-aggressive, if that is a word! Our regular dentist is Dr. Bonnie Hiers in the same area. Neither are holistic, but I find them to be very open to questions and very helpful.

We went to another pediatric dentist when my daughter was around 2 or so, and they too wanted us to do a lot of work, telling me my daughter had "extensive" decay. I took her to my normal dentist, who said let's wait and see. She is now 5, and they found out the "decay" was actually some kind of extra enamel buildup. It looks ugly for now, but it wasn't decay, it hasn't changed in over 3 years. Definitely get a second opinion. Good luck!

We go to Dr. Yasaman Roland in Annapolis. She isn't strictly a pediatric dentist, but she sees lots of kids. She's very gentle, reassuring, and all of our kids love her smile.gif

And she's a holistic dentist with a mercury-free/mercury-safe office. I highly recommend her!

We really, REALLY like Dr. Kohn in Sparks. It's a HIKE from Baltimore (where we live) but well worth the trip, IMO. I just love her. She is very professional, comforting and is very sweet with kids. She's also super punctual, which makes a difference for the drive. Also, if you happen to like Wegmans you can always plan to go out there too. It's like a mini-day trip. ;-)  I've also heard good things from a dentist in Cross Keys.

We see Dr. Dworkin in Cross Keys. He's been in Baltimore Magazine's "top docs" issue a few times. I've been happy with the practice so far.
