Can anyone recommend one in the Annapolis/DC/Baltimore area (since I am sure there aren't any on the eastern shore)? My daughter is a toe-walker and we need to get her checked out. Thanks!

Marine ecologist wife to my kite-boarding soulmate and now a SAHM to Annabelle 8/02, 3 , and finally Willem 12/21/08!

I'm taking my 15 mo DS to see Dr. Standard at Sinai for a second opinion. He has possible blounts disease (his lower legs bow and he toes in) and we had taken him to Dr. DePass at Kernan, she was nice enough but I didn't like her wait and see attitude and the xrays done there were subpar so I was annoyed by that. When I posted here and on the NAP yahoo groups I also received recommendations for Dr. Sponseller and Ain at Hopkins. I went with Sinia because they specialize in legs. The wait times during appts at Sinai is supposed to be ridiculous but I felt it was worth it to see the best. I hope that helps a little? GL

Can't say enough good about the pediatric ortho team at Hopkins in Baltimore. We went through two foot surgeries this year. They were great!

My son is a former patient of Dr. Standard at Sinai. He specializes in certain disorders and is not a "general" orthopedic surgeon. His office situation is beyond terrible in terms of how long you will wait (think in terms of 4-5 hours past your appointment time every single time you go there) and the consistent insensitivity and disrespect the staff, though not Dr Standard himself, displayed toward children and their families. As I said to a pp, unless you need care for one of the specific conditions in which Dr. Standard specializes, I would pick any of the other numerous good orthopedic practices in the area. I usually don't take the time to bother criticizing doctors publically, but I make an exception for Dr. Standard and the practice at Sinai.

Yep. I was one of the PPs that recommended Dr. Sponseller at Hopkins. He's really really great.

Thought I'd post about our experience with Sinai and Dr. Standard. When we first got there the lady at the desk was really nice. I asked if we'd need a pager and she said the wait shouldn't be long that day. After 5-10mins we had our xrays done and about 5-10mins after that we went to the room. Within 5-10mins we spoke to a resident(gave history etc) and then the doctor was to come in. He ended up not coming in for at least an hour due to an emergency. By this point we were definitely exhausted but when he came in he was extremely apologetic, very nice and great with my 15mo DS. I really liked him a lot. He spent a lot of time with us. He spoke in a way that my MIL could understand (I have a medical background so usually don't have trouble with that). Leaving the garage I noticed it was 4pm...our appt was for1pm...so almost 3hrs. Our next appt is the first morning appt so should be quick. Also they are building a play area too.
The wait was worth it for me because he was really great and if my DS does end up needing surgery on his legs, I know they'll do the best job since thats their focus. HTH someone down the road...
