Where is everyone grocery shopping at these days? I've been going to the beach, but I hate the long drive. Harris Teeter is closest to me for a decent store... I just can't get used to wally world or food lion...they have crappy selection, and the produce looks like sh*t.
Please help!
ETA: I'm cooking for 6 so the smaller markets are way expensive...like good earth market, etc. I'm looking for an economical store that still has a good organic/whole foods section.
Don´t know where you are kyndmamaof4! And, from a different perspective: I'm loving Food Lion after coming back from Costa Rica!!! WE have some food allergy issues that require being able to find dairy, egg and wheat free foods, and I can find them at FL!! For produce, why not avail yourself of a farmer's market during this gorgeous summer!!! We're thinking of moving to Chestertown, so we will have to go FL, or schlep across the bridge to Trader Joe's.
I've been going to Giant in Salisbury for over a year now...I'm pretty happy with their selection of organic/natural foods. Their store brand organics are pretty reasonable for pantry staples like rice, beans, etc. And I buy the nitrate-free lunchmeat for DH. For those who are gluten-free, but they recently expanded their GF section, too. I'm sure they are a bit pricier than other stores on some items, but I don't like running to 3 different stores just to get what I need. So, the convenience of having lots of natural/organic choices is worth it to me.
This time of year, I get most of my produce from the farmer's market or Greenbranch Organic Farm in Salisbury. I like that it's local and organic and if you get to know the farmers, they often will throw in extras for free or give you a break on bulk veggies (I try to freeze things like tomatoes and peppers to have during the winter months), so it ends up being comparable or even less than grocery store prices.
Oh, and if anyone is looking for pastured meats and raw dairy in Salisbury, let me know and I'll hook you up.
to clarify, I'm in the Laurel/Delmar area. My food lion doesn't have a natural foods section like some I've seen, what is there is scattered throughout the store. I prefer Superfresh in Rehoboth, but it sure aint a whole foods

Hooray!!!! That makes 4 meetings in the eastern shore of Maryland. We are covering a huge area and offer a lot of times/dates over the month. So thrilled.

It was nice to see some SNOW on Friday (we only got an inch during the last 'blizzard'...amazing how much it varied from town to town). Hope everyone is well. Next babywearing meeting is 1/21 for anyone who is interested.
Hi everyone! I'm new to mothering.com and just saw this thread. Thought I'd introduce myself! I live in Caroline County and am a SAHM to a three year old and twin 20 month old girls. I breastfed all of them, my son until he was 15 mths and the girls for 18 mths. We practice attachment parenting and are in the process of trying to become more green. I thought this would be a great site to get ideas!
and welcome to MDC, Kristen! Good to see other like-minded mamas here on the shore. It can feel kind of lonely sometimes.
Too bad we are all so spread out. One of my big complaints about living here. Maybe in the spring we can finally get a face-to-face meetup scheduled so all our tribe members can finally connect in person.
Hi everyone - I'm not yet a mama, but I'm all about the natural family living...and I'm SUPER glad to be here. My name is Chloe. I live in Ocean City after a 10 yr stint in New England. Student midwife, apprentice herbalist - getting used to the bit of culture shock between here and up north LOL.
Chloe! I posted on your Intro thread--happened to see it in New Posts....totally joking about you being/needing MWs here on the shore! How great!! Off to PM you, but just wanted to say how refreshing it is to see someone in our area studying midwifery...and hoping that you'll be able bring your skills and knowledge to the residents here...we SO need it!
Hi there! My family and I live on Kent Island. We've been here 2 years and I seek my lovely momma's when I'm confused and need guidance. I am happy to be apart of this group. Does anyone here know of any vaccine friendly peds in the area? I'm starting to have issues with mine...Thanks!!!
Hi guys,
I'm from the ES, but haven't lived there since 1997. Moving back this year
I'll be near OC. I'm wondering, do any of you get grass-fed beef in the area? I have a great farmer where I'm moving from, but it's a 10 hour 1-way trip, not something I relish doing every year...

and welcome! Maybe some of the mamas closer to you can chime in--I'm pretty far east from you, so don't think I'll be much help. Are there any DOs (Osteopaths) in your area? IME, they tend to be more accepting of delayed/selective/no vax.

Hi! Welcome back! You got my PM...anyone else who needs details on local beef, just lmk.
Re: beef, you can check out Cedar Run Farm in Sudlersville, MD. Shorter than 10 hours but still not exactly local. We've gotten their beef at the farmer's market, and there was a restaurant here in Chestertown that sold burgers made with their beef, and the burgers were great! There are a couple of options up in the Kent and Queen Anne's county way. Let me know if you'd like to hear more...
myboycal: If Easton isn't too far to go, our ped was always open minded and ultimately left the decision to us. Dr. Mark Langfit. His NP, however, will badger you to death about it, so if you go to him, make sure the appt. is with him. He was kinder and gentler in a lot of ways that she wasn't.
Hi all ~ I'm currently living in Eastern North Carolina but will be moving to Salisbury, MD around June/July...I have a son who will be 4 in April and a baby girl who just turned 1 year. I'm wondering if anyone could suggest some good neighborhoods to look at when we start house hunting...preferably one with other young families...I'm hoping to homeschool so I'm not too worried about being in a certain district in terms of schools...any suggestions would be great! And I'm so excited to learn that there is a store there that sells cloth diapers, etc!!
Thanks...Jen
Hi all! I live in Wicomico county and am 13 weeks preg with #2. Of course, the irony is that I wasn't expecting to ever be pregnant (not that I'm unhappy about it) because #1 is eleven. So here I go again! Great to know there are so many others here on the shore!
