Is this our new thread? Did the old one finally implode after 2 years?

Here's a link to the old one so everyone can find eachother again.

ETA: Well, rats! I tried to link from the old thread to this one, but with the changes to FYT, it's now archived and I can't. Hope all the ES mamas see this....

beachbaby-I have always been a babywearer, but my almost 3 yo is getting very heavy, and we've had to resort to a stroller as of late. Any carriers you can reccomend for us? It would be so much easier to wear her when we're out and about.

oh, to add to my last post, the most successful carrier lately has been a kelty carrier, but even that is getting difficult to lug her around in

I'm thinking it's because she's up higher on my back, and not closer to my body.

Hey, Kaara! I still wear my almost 3 year old, too. She's not even 30 lbs, though. I used the AngelPack LX (APLX)--it's a soft-structured carrier with a wide, padded waistband. The weight is on your waist, so there's not as much pulling on your back or shoulders. I wore DD comfortably for 2+ hours in it while walking at a hilly fairground recently. The beco is similar and an Ergo might work for you, too. Go Green Baby sells the APLX.

argh, I haven't been on in a while and just missed this post by a couple hours! what is this, bad karma??? sheesh...
well anyways, just wanted to share my news- I got on ebay and bought a brand new red sateen hotsling in my plus size 6 (which is apparently hard to get), for only $14.95 plus shipping, yeah! I just got it yesterday and it looks like it might actually fit, it's pretty comfy, I just don't have a wee one to put in just yet to try out, but hopefully very soon!

looks like by all the intros we've had a boom in membership, how awesome! if anyone wants to get together out in the salisbury area I'm game, and I have a friend in snow hill not on the boards but who wants to get together with some other moms too (like me, she's also semi-"crunchy"). mid-late mornings are best for me, since it takes me like 3 hours to get the kids out of the house when I'm by myself. just email me at mommy2miracles@verizon.net if you want to get together somewhere, if you don't hear back right away it's hopefully b/c I'm in labor!

also- anybody here into scrapbooking? I haven't been able to find a scrapbooking group in the area yet.... I have a ten seat dining table and am more than happy to host a small crop....

oh and did I mention I LOVE the new baby store???!!! I never get to go in as it always seems like we go to the health food store on mondays, when she is closed! finally a couple weeks ago I got to go in and I loved it, it's so neat and clean, and I totally am loving the cute wood toys for the kids' christmas presents! tried to talk the hubby into going to the cloth diaper seminar this month but he is really resisting and I don't think I am going to win the "let's switch to cloth diapers" battle. anyways I recommend a visit, it's fun!

This is my first post on MDC and I'm so happy to have found such a place as this. I'm learning something new all the time! Anyway, there is the possibility of my husband and I moving to southern Delaware (Millsboro) in the near future. We have not TTC but that might change soon too. The move would put us in the position of being able to start that possibly. I am just wondering what the birth options are for women in southern Delaware who don't want a hospitalized/medicalized birth experience. So far I've learned that is only one birth center in DE and it is in Wilmington... seems a bit far for a car ride while in labor. I've also heard about midwives not being able to attend homebirths legally. Is all this true? Would it be any better to go into Maryland for a birth? Has anyone used a midwive at home anyway? Is it worth just making the drive to a birth center? What have you ladies done?

And on another note... does anyone live in or know about Millsboro? I'm just curious what it's like. I've never lived near the ocean before!

P.S. I hope I posted this right.

Wife to my best friend, a hardworking mountain man, and mom to a sweet little girl (7/10) and a spastic kitty, currently living far from the mountains.

it is technically illegal for a lay midwife or a certified midwife to practice in md and de, only nurse midwives in conjunction with an ob are permitted. this made me really freaked out when we moved here and got pg almost immediately. however it seems like the state doesn't really care and looks the other way as long as the midwives stay under the radar. keep in mind you are not breaking the law by having a homebirth, you are allowed to birth wherever- it is the midwife taking the risk by practicing not you. my cpm is in elkton and she is coming down here to do my homebirth. I will give you her info in a private message or email if you like. there is also the birth center in annapolis but since I've had two homebirths I didn't relish the idea of being in a car while in labor and while it sounds like a nice place, it's still not my own home so I was insistent we find someone who would do a homebirth. we've been pleased with her so far, she has lots of experience and is very comfortable and laid back. I will let you ladies know in a few weeks how it turns out, I am really hoping for a waterbirth this time!

Aw, Rebecca, sorry! I should've posted the reminder about the babywearing meeting sooner! But, we'll have another next month and probably another worskhop the store, too. Maybe you'll even have a little one to bring by then! : Sounds like a score on the Hotsling! Yay!

Welcome, Miims! I don't know specifics about Millsboro, but I wanted to say, don't count out The Birth Center in Wilmington. Millsboro to Wilmington isn't really that far to travel for this area. Things are pretty spread out here on the shore. For instance, if I were to have a hospital birth at my 'local' hospital, it'd be a 20-30 minute drive for me. So, driving a little further isn't much of a big deal for most of us. I know it's a little disconcerting thinking about driving in labor, but, especially with your first, you'll likely have plenty of time to get there! Rebecca had good info about the homebirth climate here. I've heard a good number of stories of mamas travelling to Annapolis (Special Beginnings) from the shore, as well (2+ hours for most of us). Good luck!

Welcome, Miims!! Like beachbaby said, everything is pretty spread out here, so unless you have a homebirth (in which case you'll be doing all the driving for your prenatals, but someone will come to you for the birth), you'll have a bit of a hike. I delivered my 2nd baby at Beebe in Lewes. That would be the closest hospital for you and I did have a good experience there. They do allow MWs to practice there, but they're part of an OB/Gyn staff so you can't be certain you'll really get to deliver w/a MW, kwim? Still, your odds are better than the other hospital in Salisbury which does not allow MWs at all.

That said, if I were 1st time Mom, I wouldn't mind driving to the birth center in Wilmington. In my case, I'm on my third and I *barely* (I mean had less than 10 minutes from getting to hospital to having baby!) made it the 1 hr drive to Beebe. I would also love a HB, but have family obstacles (lack of support) and insurance concerns on that front. I'm going to start laying the groundwork w/my DH on a HB though and if not, I'll be back at Beebe in the spring!
