Without getting too in depth, I have been a follower of Jesus only for about 2.5 years. I was searching many different paths at one point, went to a Buddhist meditation, Unitarian, Lutheran church, Episcopal, etc. When we moved to Mechanicsburg a few years ago, I was looking for a church to go to in the evening. I Googled a church in the area and found a Brethren in Christ church that had a Sunday evening service. I went there, things "clicked" for me, and the rest is history! I even got to invite my sister and her now husband there, and they are both committed followers and members now of McBic. I didn't grow up in the church, though, and the few times we went, we went to a local Episcopal church or something similar to that. The anabaptist church is quite a change from my previous experiences! Hubby, on the other hand, grew up sometimes going to a Catholic church, and unfortunately, had some crappy experiences (i.e. being told he was going to hell for listening to a certain kind of music, etc.) Anyway, those left a bad taste in his mouth, so we just keep an open dialogue and respect one another on our own paths. My hope is that I can be the wife that I was meant to be and show him that there are many different 'flavors' of Christians, and not all are condemning to others! God knows exactly what path he is on anyway!

PS. I know his experience is not indicative of all Catholic churches, or Catholics, just his own.

wow, what a great story! thank you for sharing I will have to share mind when I have more time!

I totally understand about the crying. DS1 did that for a very. long. time. It made me crazy. I am blessed to have such a peaceful babe this time around.

Nazarene is very hard to explain. Maybe I can explain by saying that I'm comfortable in anything from a Methodist to a Southern Baptist church. Women are accepted as clergy in the Nazarene church, and you'll find drum sets in most sanctuaries. I do beleive in the Divinity of Jesus, and in striving toward Holiness. I did grow up in this denmination, but my father grew up plain Mennonite, so I'm familiar with that, and my DH grew up Episcopalian, so I've attended lots of different services.

I look forward to meeting everyone!

so... before I decide on if we will come tomorrow (and I hope to!) I figured i should aks how old everyone's kids are who will be there. I have an 8.5 yr old boy and a 4 yr old girl and they are about sick of going to playdates with only babies and toddlers. so I really don't want to drag them 1.5 away from home for that. they can find babies to play with here LOL

aww I appreciate it =) but really, my kids ONLY see adults. I really think they would enjoy actually seeing some kids for once. seriously, they never get to play with older kids... when we moved we left their friends behind. they both love babies and toddlers, but they deserve some one on one with people their age too you know? even in our neighborhood all the kids are either teens or below 6. Eva loves it... btu I feel terrible for Eli. he tries to always be a good sport with the littles... but I know he's lonely.

I know someone mentioned having a 9ish yr old at one point, but i can't recall if that was someone who can't make it or not...

There were three of us! Which was apparently the limit for my DS1 who wouldn't socialise with any of his guests! Oh well!

I had fun!

I thought it was fun! And your DS1 was FINE, Heidi. It's overwhelming sometimes for little kids to have random people going through their toys. He was really good, I thought.

I'm not far from reading. I'm about 25 mins from the Target and Chickfila there. (sorry I'm still not familiar with road names here!)

If y'all were thinking a January repeat it's often a little easier for me to get to Reading on the fly than Lancaster, and I'll be back in the state for a while around then.

I think I'm gonna have to sit this one out... my son is really not a fan of the carseat, so an hour drive from Marietta would be too much right now. You ladies have fun getting together...I will catch you next time around!

Hi Everyone,

I just found this group and I was so surprised to see so many in central PA! Mind if I join you?

I live in Mount Wolf (just on the East side of York) and I have a 10 month old son. It sounds like many of you have older kids so I'm not sure how much he will be able to interact with the others, but I would love to try

I have a fairly large house but we keep it pretty cold downstairs here in the winter time : and we have five cats, so I'm thinking this would not be a very popular meeting spot. In the warmer months, though, it might be good because we have a large backyard (not fenced in) a fairly large veggie garden (fenced in), woods and a creek if we wanted to do an outside meet up.

As far as the interfaith idea, I think that's interesting. As my siggy says, I'm a practicing Pagan. My DH is an atheist, and we are raising DS to be whatever he wants to be He and I will be attending the local Unitarian Universalist church soon as members so that he can benefit from the diversity of spiritual paths and the breadth of the religious/spiritual education there.

Pleased to "meet" some local mamas

hi, mamas! I'm new to Elizabethtown (I grew up here, moved away, and now I'm back) and am looking for playdates for DS and friends for me. DS is almost 9 months. Our apartment is small, and we have one kitty, but I'm willing to have people over. Or we can travel to meet someone...we have 2 cars and DH takes the pooey one to work, leaving DS and I with the good, safe car. I am free on Fridays all day and other days I'd have to look at my calendar before doing anything. Who's in for a meet up? PM me!
