At your Cervices- Good for you! we could use a midwife around here!
Definitely. I would love to start a homebirth practice. I was thinking about looking into getting hospital privileges when I graduate (just in case), but then I remind myself it's WCA. Not going to happen. I'm not as familiar with other hospitals in the county.
It's still going to be some time (3 years) before I graduate, then take the NARM exam, and then get licensed by the state. I would like to accept insurance as well, to make midwifery care available to more women.
One of my friends is going to college to become an RN (I'm encouraging her to go through doula training as well), and she eventually wants to become a midwife, too. We've been talking about starting the practice together. She'll work for me, as the nurse. If I'm at a birth, she'll be able to head out to another laboring woman's home to check how far along the other mama is. Eventually, she'll become a licensed midwife as well, and if the business goes well, it may eventually grow into a free standing birthing center, so as to appeal to more women. Homebirth is where my heart is, though.
