Can anyone reccomend a midwife in south jersey. I live in Salem county and really want to deliver at Elmer hospital since they have a birthing tub. I am willing to travel up to an hour for a good midwife and I'd really prefer a water birth but have accepted that might not be possible thanks for reading!

Karen Shields, CNM is in solo practice and catches waterbabies at Elmer. She is fabulous.

The Birth Center in Wilmington, DE is also not far from So.Jersey and offers waterbirth as well.

Best of luck to you!

Not sure where Elmer is. Midwifery Care Associates in Pennington NJ, midwives Pam and Louise, are wonderful. I delivered at home, labored in a tub in the living room; they have privledges at hospital in trenton.

Donna, working mom to Finn, born at home 5/2009:married to wonderful husband Tom, and expecting baby-dos in September 2011!

I second Karen Shields, very nice and understanding, unfortunatelly she couldn't accept me because I was a VBAC at that time. But if it is a normal birth for you go with her. Good luck!

Patti Madden is fantastic; I just wrote a rave about her in another thread (probably just below this one). I hope you can get in with her!

Oh, I just thought I should mention... I thought I wanted a water birth too, or at least to use the tub most of the time. It turned out not to be - someone else was using the room with the tub! So while your chances are pretty good that you will get one with Patty at Elmer, there is a chance you will have to settle for the jacuzzi, and they won't do births in there (nor do I think you would want to...) - so just be prepared for an out-of-water birth, too.
