I recently met with Kate at Rising Moon Midwifery and am curious to hear about people's experiences with her. I liked her philosophy on birth and how she answered my questions but I'd love to get a better feel for her personality and what she's like to work with. She was very professional/serious when I met with her, but I guess she was technically at a job interview with me asking her questions and trying to decide if we wanted to use her so it was hard to get a feel for what her personality is like outside of that situation. I tend to be a pretty outgoing, talkative, bubbly person so I wouldn't want to drive her crazy if she's a more serious person. Thanks!

I've emailed w/ her a bit, met her in person & have met a few people who've used her & loved her. From all that, if I had a reason to leave my midwife, I'd definitely check into her more.

Best wishes!
Sus

Baby the babies while they're babies so they don't need babying for a lifetime.

Hi Amy! I wondered if you might see this and wonder... no, no news to report. Looking for future reference, plus I found myself in need of a provider recently and didn't know who to call so figured I'd just start looking around now. Who was your midwife? Do you recommend her? Anyone else you know and love?

I used Robin Master. LOVED her for Lynne's birth. Thought she was ok for Addie's. I would still recommend her though. Also... maybe find out who Danielle is working with? I do not know how much training she needs to become a MW, maybe if it is not much, she could be your MW?

I used Kate, too. I love her!!
I think that she is very professional. She's also very warm and kind and has this ability to put you at ease when you feel like a nutcase.

modern-mama to DS (5.16.05) and DD (9.11.08) and one more (GIRL!) coming in December

Kate's awesome...I guess what you're saying is you couldn't get a read on her personality. Like you said, she was probably just answering questions...and wearing her professional hat at the time. Since it might just matter to hear it from someone you've met before, I will tell you that she is a fantastic midwife and person. Might just take y'all another time to feel each other out better.

I had my second with her at home.

I thought you moved to Lancaster area?

calliollie, i am currently seeing kate for my second baby (due this week--AHHH!! just thought i'd throw that in there!) and i love her! HOWEVER, i did have the same reservations when my husband and i first met with her. she was reserved and by no means 'warm and fuzzy'. it took her a little while to warm up to me (which is fine and totally normal), and it took me a little while to see how awesome she is. honestly though, i am so pleased with my care over the last 6-ish months. she is laid back and straight forward and honest and COOL. she's really cool. and she gives great hugs if you like her view on prenatal/birth care, don't let your first impresion of her hold you back from using her!

feel free to PM with any questions!

happy wife to greg and mama to owen (5/30/08). excited to meet baby #2, EDD 4/2/10.

Thanks, Lori. That does help to hear it from someone I've met before. I've only heard wonderful things about her and I by no means got a bad impression of her AT ALL and in fact was very impressed by her but just didn't "click" and wasn't sure if it was just that discomfort that sometimes does come with first meeting someone or if we just weren't a good match.

And Kristen, I have sent you a PM!

Oh, and Lori - I was initially planning to move to Lancaster county. Then we started looking at Berks county as well and ended up liking it better out here so now we're outside of Reading. We're really happy here so i'm glad it worked out the way it did!

Kate and RM are wonderful---i'm very talkative and a little over zealous at times but i think she likes me =). I couldn't imagine having any another midwife. (she caught my son)

Sounds like you are getting some great feedback. I know that the leader of the ICAN of the Lehigh Valley group used her, and really liked her. I interviewed her for my most recent pregnancy, and found her to be very likeable. I didn't use her only because of cost issues. I ended up using Robin Master because Robin had been at my first two homebirths (as the "assistant midwife" to Lynn Shay...Lynn is no longer doing births), and her price was significantly lower than Kate's.

I would recommend Kate wholeheartedly! She attended the births of both my children. Our relationship grew over the course of my first pregnancy so that I was really sad (as was she) that we wouldn't see each other every week after my daughter was born. She is skilled and knowledgeable midwife and a caring person. Good luck!

She was my secondary midwife for my twin HBAC attempt in 2007. I liked her, although I did experience the lack of "click" that you describe. However I was a late transfer into midwifery care, so it's possible it would have developed over time. She did my prenatals and was always nice, and was at my birth and was a good, unobtrusive presence.

full time, single, slightly soggy WOHM to Juliet (12.31.2004 @ 36w5d) and Willow & Adam (2.22.2007 @ 39w5d, HBAC transfer) and... expecting my little womb warrior Eowyn Susanne in September

Any additional thoughts on Kate at Rising Moon?
