We found out yesterday that DH's company is switching insurance providers and that The Birth Center in Wilmington, DE, where DS was born, is not covered under the new plan.
We're planning to TTC #2 soon so I really need to figure this out before hand.

The insurance company doesn't cover home birth, but I'm assuming most HB midwives charge less than the $5,650 that the birth center does.

The only thing I've come up with so far is WomanWise in Elkton, MD. They've recently opened an office in Wilmington, but I'm kind of hoping for someone a little closer. My labor with DS went really quickly. The only reason we didn't have a UC or car birth was because we were already at the birth center for a checkup when my water broke; my mom only made it with about 2.5 minutes to spare.

We live on the south-western tip of Gloucester County, so Salem or Gloucester counties would be ideal, but some parts of Camden County aren't too much of a hike. We're about 5 minutes from the Commodore Barry Bridge as well.

Is there anyone out there for us?

Have you called TBC to talk about your insurance issue or did the company themselves tell you TBC isn't covered? Sometimes there are ways to work this out...

Have you called Christy Santoro of motherland
Midwifery? 215-hmbirth is her number and she has a website.
She was with womanwise (of elkton) but spun off. She is located in South Philly close to the Walt Whitman bridge. She delivered our daughter, and she's wonderful.

Mama to Charlotte (2/14/07) and Julian (11/27/10) both born at home.
