Happy at Home Mama to DD 4/95 DS 4/98 and DS#2 8/10
Hi, I've been a doula for a little over 3 years - plus having given birth to my own 5 children naturally. I'd love to help you with your birth! And I'm (way) under $1500 (I'm located in NJ, where the going rate is lower!). Please feel free to contact me at 973-473-7245 (daytime) or 973-594-1595 (evening) or call my cell at 973-563-4465.
My doula was also located in NJ (border of Essex and Passaic counties). She is DONA-certified, and was great. Her name is Lesley Rafes.
She had fifteen (hospital) births under her belt when I hired her in 2011, and probably has a bunch more now. (Of course, the more births she does, the higher her rates will probably go, but I paid $600 last year so I doubt she's charging over $1500 at this point...)
Hi! Check out Momdoulary! When you hire one of their doulas you get all of their classes for free for one year after your baby is born and breastfeeding support for 3 months, all free with doula. They have classes on childbirth (long one, short ones, birth ball ones, birth art, birthnotics, how to talk to your doctor, intimacy during pregnancy, etc) plus newborn care and parenting classes. I met SO many friends through my classes too. And their doulas were AMAZING. They have doulas at every price range. I mean their master doulas are $3500 but you can get a really experienced doula (like 100 births or more - I am not sure how many) for $1500 and you can even hire one of their apprentices (they run a training program) for like $350-700 (I think the $700 ones have more experience). For us, we couldn't afford the doula we wanted, she was $1600, it was just a little out of our reach. So they let us drop the price to $1400 if she could bring an apprentice. It was bliss! TWO doulas and I paid less? Massage, lots of hip squeezes, always someone to help out. They really helped my hubby know what to do too. You will love Laura you should take her Fearless Childbirth class - it is free if you can get a ticket from a doctor or a store (I think Metro Minis on Park Ave gives them out). She tells it like it is. And we loved Cora and Unique - incredible doulas. You should visit their website at least. Good luck!
