So I am pregnant with my first, due mid-June! I am young enough to still be covered under my parents' fantastic health insurance policy for a little while longer but unfortunately that doesn't extend to the babe.

I am wondering if anyone has any experience getting a medical access card for their baby while pregnant without applying for themselves. I am a little hesitant to just call someone because I'm seeing a homebirth midwife and don't want to set off any red flags if I can avoid it. Anyone btdt?

Hi there!  Congrats on your pregnancy!  I live in PA... I currently have insurance through my husband's work, but also qualified for the MA card for myself (for gaps in coverage.. deductibles, etc.).  This will cover babe as well, for 6 weeks I believe.  I have not seen an OB - I just see a homebirth midwife.  Obviously, the insurance doesn't cover her fee in PA, but baby is covered and I am covered should anything catastrophic happen.  No red flags have been raised regarding my not having seen an OB.  I'd suggest you apply now, that way babe is covered right away.
