Excellent Free Pre-K in lower manhattan
Any family looking for a great great great pre-k place for this year still? My Son's pre-school, the Bank Street Head Start is still enrolling children born in 2010 and it is an amazing program (and it is free!)
It is operated by the Bank Street College of Education. Progressive education at its best. Play is the most important activity in and out of the classroom and the staff (highly educated, trained and supported) makes sure to offer great opportunities for learning within this context. Big focus on socio-emotional development. With the support and structure of a head start program.
My son is attending it for the second year now and I can't imagine a better school experience. He loves it and frowns when it is time to go home… also misses it in the weekends.
It is a UPK, so it is free! And being a Head Start, all meals are freshly made on premisses (yummy, healthy and balanced menu).
They are on E 5th street btwn Ave A and B and will enroll children who live anywhere btwn Canal and 34th street (east and west). While the Head Start program serves low income families, there are still some spots for families who fall over the income limit.
Please spread the word to any family that is not quite satisfied with their pre-k placement or any relocating family still looking for the perfect place.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or go ahead and contact their family coordinator : Erin Atkinson 212-353-2532 ext.236 [email protected]
