Yes! I had my 2nd dd in PA, Allentown as a matter of fact, and we refused eye gel.

Yes! We refused on both kids, in 2003 and 2006.

it was in my birth plan to wait/let us do it, but they did it anyway while they were sewing up my tearing, but I was *allowed* to refuse.

You can refuse. You may have to sign a waiver though.

Thanks! I just read in the Midwife Center handbook last night that there is a waiver to sign if it's refused. Good to go

Yes, and they did it to my son anyway, I was LIVID. I was allergic to it when I was born and didn't open my eyes for a week. We are going to be vigilant with this birth, I've already told the midwife and refused to sign the consent forms for the hospital because of it. My son is allergic to E-mycin and this is what they use at my hospital, so I don't want my baby to have it in anyway whatsoever.

Yup. Just did it in June with mine.

Make sure it's in your plan and that you tell whoever is with you to repeat it over and over again. Bring copies in triplicate. And beware doctors telling you that all sorts of little things are because you refused it.

I had the ped who examined Ds tell me that his blocked tear duct was because of the ointment. She then offered to give it to him a day later. :
