It would be a hike, but Dr Steven Mendes of Wareham Pediatrics takes Mass Health. He is not holistic, per se, but he was recommended to me because he would "tolerate" delayed/no vax. A very nice guy--I don't think he's had much exposure to folks who think outside the mainstream medical box, but he has a pretty open mind.

My babe was his first patient who was born at home, and my friend's tot was the first patient he ever had who didn't vax on schedule. He was very nice about it all though. He also understood and worked with my desire to avoid antibiotics for ear infections. On our first visit he asked me why I chose homebirth. I said "because I know the cesarean rate in MA". He nodded and that was all. (Of course I thought of a million better things to say later, but that worked.)

We moved when my babe was 9 months old. If I had it to do over I would have gone to Dr Vand Blinn in Marion, MA. I met her at an organic farming conference. Not sure if she takes Mass Health but I think she would work with you. She doesn't vax ANY tots on the standard schedule, and is totally fine with no vax, and very very holistic.

Best wishes!

Check out Harbor Medical in Pembroke (and other areas) some of the drs are okay w/ no vax.... Carole Smith... but she is going on maternity leave in 4 weeks and then will be back in October.

Try Dr Griever in Halifax, he may take Mass Health and be open to alternate vax practices... That may not be 'near' you, depends where you are... I'd ask for a phone interview or see if you can get a feel for him. We met once for my dd's eczema mainly because I used it as an excuse to interview another doctor in the area and I really liked him, but for a few reasons we stuck with the dr closer to us right now who was monitoring my son for a medical issue... basically didn't want to transfer in the middle of somethign since we were pretty satisfied.

Dr Harootunian with Plymouth Carver Primary Care in Carver is also very flexible and may take Mass HEalth... but he doens't know much about supporting bf'ing (imo) and isn't holistic, but he listens and is flexible and is respectful. He's very busy and can talk a million miles a minute... which I'm sure you can just ask him to slow down if you need to, but he seems to have speed up the more we go (and gets busier)

Family practice drs tend to be more flexible....

I still haven't found one I can completely recommend...

Just wanted to add that I think Dr. Mendes is a wonderful doctor! He was dd#1's doctor from birth until about age 3. She was born with a lot of breathing problems and he was very knowledgeable and took the time to really explain things. He also always listened to my input. I really felt like we were working together on things - not that he was telling me what should happen (as many doctors tend to do). I switched doctors because her breathing problems got better as she aged and we were traveling about 40 minutes to see him.

Thanks guys- I am in quincy, I would LOVE to see dr.smith however, mass health is not accepted there. my sons 24month appt is in august and Ive delayed several vaccines that the pedi said, we can no longer come to their office if he isnt vaxed by age 2.
Sigh...I wish every doctor took mass health.

We're in Quincy! I bring my children to Dr. Guarnotta. He's at Harvard Vanguard in Braintree. They accept mass health. They also have an office in Quincy Center, but I'm not sure if he's in both locations. We pretty much only see him once or twice a year, but he seems very nice. The kids like him. The plus for me is that he respects my decision to not vaccinate. He only has positive things to say about the way we choose to live.

Our previous Pedi told me that what I was doing was very wrong; and to not vaccinate is like not putting a seat belt on your child while driving. She went on to say not vaccinating could be considered child abuse. So, we never went back to that dr.

Good luck!

Anyone know of a no-vax friendly doc who takes Mass Health north of Boston (north shore, preferably)? The doc we have taken our DD to since she was born no longer takes ANY insurance so I am scrambling to find someone as holistic as he was who will take us.

Any help greatly appreciated!!!
