We moved to the Cape before we had kids. Once we had kids most of our friends without kids disappeared. I made friends through a breastfeeding support group and playgroups through our local library. I think everyone is going to have different parenting styles and I find as long as we respect one another then it's ok. Sometimes you have to compromise. You have to decide how far a compromise you'll make. I don't leave my kids with anyone but my inlaws and my sisters and since they live over 2 hours away that's not very often. It's really hard to make friends when you have kids. For me anyway it is. You're not alone!

After relocating when DS was 3.5 months I started attending a local chapter of Holistic Moms group, and that is where I met the majority of my current friends. I have met some on the play ground and play group/library story hours. I am an introvert but I find having a kid helps to provide a common ground to start a conversation. But you do have to put yourself out there.
